Posting will be light for a few days

July 26, 2006 | Quick Tips

As some of you know, I’m now out in California for BlogHer, and between the time change and the complete inability to stop talking to and licking people, my posting schedule will be a bit light.

Today’s tip: Here at the Hyatt, when you try to connect to the internet, it takes you to a login page where a credit card is needed. I was grumbling about it, but all set to fork over the cash, when Jenn pointed out that surely conference attendees would be granted free wireless. She went up the front desk and asked about it, and she was right! We were given a special password to get in without paying. Awesome.

Lesson learned; always ask.

Sweepstakes and free toothpaste

Hot Hot Hot!

Check out this contest over at Sensodyne and don’t forget to register for a free sample while you’re there.

I like Sensodyne. Well, I don’t love the price, but I do like being able to eat cold foods without experiencing that ice-pick-in-the-gums sensation, which is what happens when I don’t use my sensitive teeth toothpaste.

I’m sensitive; I can’t help it. I’m a delicate flower. Stop laughing.

Good morning! Tea?

Hot Hot Hot!

Although I would really like to start off each and every day with a gigantic mug of strong coffee, my nerves and my children don’t seem to feel that I need quite that much caffeine. Go figure.

And so I have recently switched to green tea, which is chock full of antioxidants and other good stuff, and has considerably less caffeine than coffee (or even black tea, for that matter).

That’s why I immediately told Bridgett how pretty she was when she sent me the link to these freebies from Yogi Tea. I got the green tea sampler, but there are four different packs to choose from. Surely there’s something that tickles your tastebuds… especially since it’s our very favorite price.

Their commercials don’t have men dressed as fruit

July 25, 2006 | Hot Hot Hot!

From now through Thursday, July 27th, get free shipping on every order at Hanes Online. Just use coupon code TUESDAY.

It’s a great way to stock up on back-to-school undies and socks, and they have a variety of comfy cottony goodness for us grown-ups, too.

(The fact that their commercials feature the likes of Kevin Bacon and Michael Jordan rather than scary produce is just icing on the cake, y’know?)

Free foundation

Hot Hot Hot!

Okay; it’s a little confusing. First it says a free sample, then it says a coupon for a free full-size product. So really, I can’t tell you what it is, other than that I’m pretty sure it will have something to do with foundation. I think.

Go get yourself some.

(Thanks, Redsmom!)

Leaving, on a jet plane

Travel

As some of you already know, I’m leaving on a cross-country trip tomorrow. I did my diligent shopping around for the cheapest plane ticket. I’ll be packing in my clearance suitcase. I’ve got my hot new laptop case. And I suckered a friend into playing airport taxi so that I don’t even have to pay for parking.

(I’m still a little amazed that my friends even talk to me. I’m kind of a pain in the butt, sometimes. Like, when I need to be at the airport at 7:30 in the morning.)

Yep, I’m almost ready to pack and be on my way. And then I thought to myself, (”Self,” I said) perhaps there are some lessons to share here. I concluded that mostly I have nothing really enlightening to impart, but we already know that that’s never stopped me before…. (more…)

Cute stuff, deep discounts

Hot Hot Hot!

Have you ever shopped Spilsbury? Check out the sale section for all manner of interesting and wacky items. You may have to hunt a bit for a good deal, but there are a few buried in there. (Search for item #15542… wooden poker chips in a caddy for just $7.77!)

Here’s some codes, but I haven’t tested any of them, so proceed at your own risk. And, you know, don’t yell at me if they don’t work.

40509 - $5 off a $25 order
40578 - $5 off $25
11018 - $10 off a $50 order
40507 - $10 off a $50 order
40508 - $10 off a $75 order

I’m thinking of getting the prank tongue ring. Cuz I’m just cool like that.

Camping and hiking and more, oh my!

July 24, 2006 | Hot Hot Hot!

One of my very favorite sites is having an awesome sale!

Sierra Trading Post is offering $.20 shipping on every order from now through Friday, July 28th, in honor of their 20th anniversary. They also have tons of further markdowns throughout the site.

While Sierra Trading Post is undeniably a fabulous resource for the “outdoorsy” types—you can get your hiking boots, a new tent, some wicking exercise wear—they also carry other overstocks tucked in amongst their regular fare. So don’t overlook them if you’re not a treehugger; they may have something you need at a fabulous price.

Thanks, Jes! You’re pretty!

Stay cool, stay frugal

Everyday Wisdom, Questions Answered

Kim asked a great question which I’m sure a lot of us have wondered about but been too lazy to really investigate. (That includes me. I made Otto look it up.)

Hi pretty girl,

In the midst of all of this insane heat, we have had quite a discussion here at the water cooler. Is it really cheaper to turn your A/C down during the day and have a programmable thermostat bring it back to temperature for your return? Please end this obnoxious debate. Thanks!

As someone who doesn’t have central AC, I guess I’d not thought about this too much. I have window units which I use as little as possible, and so if I’m not home, they’re off. But if you have central AC, what’s going to be the best bang for your buck? (more…)

Free shipping on school uniforms

Hot Hot Hot!, For the kids

Many thanks to the ever-lovely Sheryl for pointing out that Target currently has free shipping on “select” school uniform pieces through August 5th. (What makes a piece select? Beats me.)

Check it out and maybe you’ll find some things the kids need for back to school. (Back to school… are there any three words in the English language more lovely? I think not.)
