I have more coffee mugs, tote bags and teacher plaques than I could use in a lifetime. Sometimes I wish I could just send a wish list home with the heading "if you are going to buy me a present - and not that I expect you to - please consider one of the following:" As a teacher with an endless collection of mugs I had to say THANK YOU for pointing out a more useful gift!
