Today’s question comes from Laura:
Hello pretty Mir!
My husband and I are starting to look for a new (to us - we will
definitely be going the used route) car to fit our expanding family.
We have two large dogs (combined total weight: 200 pounds!) and a
baby on the way; our station wagon is just not going to cut it anymore.
Anyway, what are the tricks of the trade for car shopping? Are there
better times of the day/week/month/year to get the best deals? Do you
have any other inside tips?
Inside tips? Do I have inside tips? I have Otto! He once told me how many cars he’s owned throughout his lifetime, but I was laughing too hard to actually process the number. Otto knows a lot about cars. I know a few things, too… so perhaps together, we can give you some information to go on. (more…)

I know it’s a bit early to start thinking about holiday baking… but, really, it’s never too early to think about baking. Cookies are timeless, my friends.
We like to make our tried-and-true favorites each year, but I also enjoy finding and trying a few new recipes. That’s why I’ll be compulsively checking my mailbox for my free Very Best Baking magazine this year. Hey, it’s brought to you by Nestle, Carnation, and Libby’s; those are three of my favorite food groups!

How about some cheap photo paper?
Add this 2-pack of 4″ x 6″ glossy photo paper to your cart. It’s $3.99 with free shipping. Then use coupon code photopaper for another $2 off.
Voila! 40 sheets of photo paper for $1.99 shipped. That’s hard to beat. Heck… at that price, I might even stop cursing under my breath when the occasional sheet gets mangled in my printer feeder.

Kraft’s version of a “Dance Dance Revolution” type game for the kids. Yours for just $6 shipping and handling. Four different free downloadable games for the kids to play.
It’s easier to say yes to computer games when they actually have to work up a sweat to play them.

You already know that the end of the season is the best time to buy things, so I know that you’re already shopping for your outdoor furniture if you’re in need, because you’re smart and pretty like that.
But what’s better than cheap furniture? Cheap furniture with free shipping!
Thanks to Otto, king of all things Home Despot related, for the tip.

Here’s another one for you:
Right now you can take an additional 50% off any item already on clearance with a price ending in 83 at REI and the REI Outlet. No coupon necessary; it’s automatic at checkout. Don’t forget that if you have a local REI store, you can pick it up there instead of paying for shipping.
Stuff is selling out quickly, so go and take a gander if you’re interested.

It’s Friday, all day! Not that I’m celebrating that, at all. Not that I am dancing a little jig, right here, right now, because school starts up again next week. Not at all.
Ahem.

There are some nice goodies in the Amazon Friday sale this week. Personally, I may have to go out and find a dachsund, just so that I can justify one of these. Stop looking at me like that.
Overstock has extended the 12% off and $1 shipping through the end of the month! So you have until August 31st to shop and save. It’s like Christmas! In August! Except, without snow!
It’s possible that I need to lay off the coffee a little bit. Perhaps.

Do I ever really need an excuse to buy more books? Well… not so much. Usually I would poo-poo a 10% off coupon, but for books, I’m all over it.
So. Check it out: This weekend, print out this here coupon and get 10% off your total purchase at Waldenbooks or Borders. But the best part is that 10% of the proceeds will be donated to First Book, and used to buy books for underprivileged children. What could be better than that?
(Okay. If it was all of that and chocolate, I suppose that—technically—that would be better. But let’s not get crazy, here.)

Leave it to my favorite J. Crew groupie to alert me to savings at the House of Preppy. If you want to know what some of their clothes look like, go visit Susan and poke through her pictures—I think her whole wardrobe is from there.
Anyway! Susan mailed me to say that today and tomorrow you can use coupon code FS-495 for flat-rate $4.95 shipping on any size order. Which is pretty cool.
When I clicked over there to check it out, I also discovered that everything in the Final Sale section is an additional 20% off, today and tomorrow only, as well.
And… they have shoes, too.

This would be perfect for your favorite cook!
Farberware 7-piece kitchen sets with free apron.
Use coupon code XFB for free shipping.
There are some other deals to be had in the clearance, as well. Take a look around. But if you buy the clothes there I reserve the right to laugh at you. Just sayin’.
