The lovely barbie2be writes:
Dear Wise and Lovely Mir,
As a member of my company entertainment committee I have been asked to come up with five gift ideas for our company holiday party raffle. My first thought was of that portable DVD player that you posted about but I am completely dry on any others. I believe last year we spent up to $200 each on 8 or 10 gifts. Any ideas, oh wise one?
Wait. Did you just ask me if I have any ideas on… things to shop for? I feel faint. I mean, if this question came with a bowl of ice cream, I could die happy right now.
Let’s all enjoy a moment of silence to savor the idea of having $2000 to spend on frivolous things. Ahhhhhh.
Okay, let’s get down to business. (more…)

No, don’t kiss my face; I have no idea where you’ve been. Let’s just wave at each other.
Thanks to Jill for alerting me to the current Kisses For a Buck or Two promotion at Kiss My Face. Periodically they drastically reduce items that are either being discontinued or remade with spiffy new labels. If this is a brand you use, it’s a great time to stock up.
If you don’t yet know Kiss My Face, their products are all-natural and mostly organic, and they clearly have a sense of humor about their crunchy-granola selves, too. That’s important, because if a place like that can’t laugh at themselves, I feel compelled to do it for them. This way leaves me more time and energy to shop.

As annoying as the commercials are (”Hooked on Phonics worked for ME!”), the Hooked on Phonics materials do enjoy quite a following. But if you’ve checked out their website, you know the prices are not cheap.
Been wanting to get Hooked, without paying through the nose?
Check out the Hooked on School Success
set for just $49.99 (it’s selling for twice that on the HoP site), or the Learn to Read
set for just $99.99 (selling for three times that on the HoP site).
Interested in one of these (or anything else at SmartBargains)? Do your shopping, then come back here and click through the promotion link you want, before you check out, to activate your coupon and save even more:
12% off for New Customers - Ends 11-2-06
$10 Off Orders Over $125 - Ends 11-2-06
Free Shipping off $75 - Ends 11-2-06
Then, uh, could one of you come over here and teach my kid to read? I’m pretty sure neither of those kits will work for him unless they come with duct tape to attach him to the chair.

Did you notice there’s another grocery deal
at Amazon right now? Through November 30th, 2006, use coupon code GROCERY3 to save $10 off your $49+ order, instantly.
They carry a huge variety of brands, all with free Super Saver Shipping over $25. Lots of stuff is already on sale, too.
I just spent longer than you’ll get me to admit making my cart total as close to $49 as possible. I know, I know; I need help.

Go do this survey and receive a free compass/whistle/keylight. Maybe it’ll come in time to stuff into someone’s stocking!
I just plan to toss it into the middle of the floor and let the kids duel it out for it. I think that’s fair.
What?

Remember this? Thanks to Allie for alerting me to a new coupon good this weekend only: take $10 off your $50+ order or $20 off your $75+ order with coupon code BOO2U.
Disney says this in the fine print:
Qualifying purchase based on pre-tax, post-discount amount and excludes Shipping & Handling charges, gift cards, animation art, Walt Disney Classics Collection, Disney electronics, DVDs, videos, CDs and cassettes, video games, CD-ROMs, You-Design-It Tees, books, sing-alongs, read-alongs, pre-sales, gift boxes, Pooh Friendship Wishbands and items not in stock.
What it doesn’t say is that you have to use it on Halloween stuff. So if you’re the sort of person who does Disney ornaments or snowglobes each year, now might be the time to get a head start.
On the other hand, that little girl in the (discounted!) Tinkerbell costume on the front page does look scrumptious enough to eat.

It’s a dreary, rainy Friday here, and the kids and I stepped out the door to watch the bus pull away without so much as a backwards glance. Hmph. We piled into the car and took the shortcut to the next stop, and got out to discover twice as many kids there as usual. “So many people are late today!” squealed a little girl, with obvious delight.
“No, the bus came early today,” I answered, and four other parental heads nodded in agreement. Great start to the day. Ahem.
Fortunately, The Amazon Friday Sale won’t let me down. It will neither leave without me nor insist my watch is wrong. I love you, Friday sale!
(I don’t so much love the big processed meat sticks
, or, particularly, this
, but hey—to each his own.)
Friday Sale, you know that everyone should have their own robot
(especially for just $134.99 shipped after coupon). Did I ever tell you that the Roomba actually beeps like a truck backing up when it’s re-docking itself? It’s adorable.
Got a hankering for Mexican food? This is the cheapest I’ve seen this quesadilla maker
, and it’s got great reviews.
I don’t really know if this contraption
is any good, but it’s 69% off! Which made me giggle!
Need a gift for an avid outdoorsman? Look no further than this backpack chair
. Heck, you could probably hunker down and take a nap during your kid’s soccer game in that thing. Not that I would ever do that.
Happy Friday, and remember: Friends don’t let friends pay full retail.

So, apparently this 12% off and $1 shipping promotion at Overstock has proven really popular (duh) and so they’ve gone ahead and extended it through the weekend. If there’s something there you’ve been meaning to pick up, now would be the time. (If, for example, you’ve somehow managed to be a devoted Want Not reader and yet not have fully stocked up on nice sheets yet, check out their selection of insanely high thread count sheet sets on sale. Just sayin’.)

Remember this? But wait, there’s more!
You also get a set of Ginsu knives! Uhhhh… wait. No you don’t. I don’t know where that came from. Nevermind.
But here’s what you do get: An additional $10 off your $75 purchase of Toys & Games offered by Amazon.com
with coupon code TYSTEN75. All of the usual restrictions apply. Code is good through October 24th, 2006.
(Must… not… buy… more… toys.)

Just in time for the holidays, LL Bean is offering free shipping again. Use LL code 2324840. They’ve changed the checkout page around a bit; click on the “Redeem” button at the top of the righthand column, then use the tabs to select “Promotion.” That’s where you’ll input the code. Coupon expires January 1st, 2007.
Looks like a few of their popular backpacks are back on sale, if you’re inclined to buy ahead, and also for those of us here in the frozen north, there are deals to be had on boots. Heck, there’s a bunch of good deals. (Snowpants, anyone?) Free shipping just makes it all that much more lovely.
