So very tempted

February 22, 2007 | Hot Hot Hot!, Product Talk

These were all the rage around Christmastime, and I sort of poo-pooed the idea because they were new (and unproven) and also, I am not generally a fan of all-in-one devices. I think it leaves too much of a possibility of one part breaking and then you’re left with a partially-functional unit.

But time has gone on and people are still talking about them like they’re amazing, plus I have to admit that I’m all over anything that would allow my kids to make their own breakfast. I confess to being intrigued.

(No, taking a pop-tart out of the wrapper does not count as “making your own breakfast.”)

If you’ve gotta have your Docs

Hot Hot Hot!, What to Wear

Doc Martens has just opened up their official online store, and for a limited time you can use code NEW25 to take 25% off your purchase.

Check out the sale items to maximize your savings.

I’m incurably square, I guess, because I didn’t even realize they had anything other than scary-looking boots. Some of the shoes are really cute.

Another way to never overpay

Quick Tips

Remember this? You can enter your Amazon purchases and be alerted to price drops within the next 30 days, and then collect your refund.

Now you can do the same thing with Amazon and the following stores: American Musical Supply, Backcountry.com, BestBuy.com, BestBuy.ca, Bike Nashbar, Circuit City, CompUSA, Cooking.com, Costco, Future Shop, Jenson USA, Office Max, Sears, 6th Avenue Electronics, Staples.com, Staples.ca, or Target.

Enter your item info and then wait for the alert that the price has dropped. Easy. I love the internet.

Silly name, cool product

Hot Hot Hot!

Some of you know that from time to time people contact me about their fabulous! new! product! in the hopes that I will plug it here on the site. Often it’s something that doesn’t appeal to me at all, and I politely decline.

Other times, it’s something that intrigues me, and then I say “Excellent! What’s in it for my readers?” And if the people who contacted me are smart, they come up with a nice little perk for you.

Well, the folks over at Nozin are smart, and not just because they figured out a portable, easy-to-apply germ barrier for the nose which is a proven virucidal agent. I don’t know that I’m quite dedicated enough to my health to use it every day, but they suggest using it when flying and I do seem to get sick almost every time I fly, so I’m in. They sent me some samples and after the kids and I fly next week I’ll let you know how we did, both with the flying and the swabbing of our nostrils with the Nozin. (I share because I care.)

Go read all about it, and if you decide to buy some, Want Not readers can get free shipping on any size order using coupon code ship4free123.

Frankly, I’ve never been so excited about sticking something in my nose before.

Making affordable hotel choices

February 21, 2007 | Questions Answered, Travel

Ah, the delights of travel. The fun of staying in a hotel where someone else makes your bed! The trepidation as you remember that investigative news show where you found out what a black light reveals on those bedspreads! And last but not least, the emptiness of your wallet. Alas.

Does it have to be that way? I say no.

Hello, lovely, pretty Mir!

Knight and I are thinking about taking a trip to San Antonio for a weekend, and, being the bargain-hunter that I am, looked for deals on hotels.com and expedia.com. I didn’t find anything that made me do cartwheels, so I thought I’d check to see what you knew about the subject. We’re driving, so we don’t need airfare. I’m just looking for a deal on a hotel room near the Riverwalk. We’re also planning to use a gift certificate from Restaurant.com

Thanks bunches!

Rachel

Look how pretty Rachel is, already planning on ways to save money. I’m proud of her already! (more…)

I know, I can’t shut up about the Circulon

Hot Hot Hot!, Product Talk

If you somehow managed to resist all of my previous Circulon deals posts, you might want to consider this dutch oven as a starter piece. At $19.99 (down from $100) it’s cheaper than most crappy brands, and between the stove top and the oven there’s about a million things you can do with it.

I mean, it’s not going to vacuum your floors or anything, but for cookware, it’s pretty versatile.

(Pssst—eligible for free Super Saver Shipping on $25+. Find a filler item to go with it and you’re good to go.)

They work on poison ivy AND wrinkles

Hot Hot Hot!

I just love Aveeno. Really, they’re great with skin for all kinds of things. And we already know that I like free stuff. So this offer for a coupon and free sample of Positively Ageless is right up my alley.

Though I’m not sure I want to be ageless. Then how will I buy wine?

Go see a movie with the extra money

February 20, 2007 | Hot Hot Hot!

Once again there’s a 60% off coupon for Restaurant.com: Just use code DINE to get a $25 certificate for just $4, or a $10 certificate for $1.20.

Offer expires February 28th, 2007.

If you’ve eagerly clicked over there on previous deals, only to be disappointed at the lack of participation in your area, keep checking back. Restaurants are added all the time, and even in my remote corner of the woods they’ve added several this last month. Woohoo!

Don’t leave home without it

Hot Hot Hot!

I hate cutesy names as much as the next person, and I’ll admit that I was plenty skeptical when I first came across Lands’ End’s “tugless tanks” in their swimwear. Over the years they’ve expanded into tugless tankinis and even tugless bikinis, but the principle remains the same: The sun don’t shine where the sun shouldn’t shine.

And if you’ve been reading me for more than five minutes you know that I’m an advocate of saving money wherever possible, so listen closely when I say this. There is no such thing as overpaying for a bathing suit if it fits you properly and holds up well. There, I said it. If you can get it on sale, that’s great. If you can’t, well, it’s still okay. There is no substitute for a bathing suit you can wear without embarrassment.

Maybe you’ve got a fun-in-the-sun vacation coming up. Maybe you’re already thinking ahead to summer. Either way, Lands’ End is having their Swimsuit Sale right now, which means it’s the right time to save up to 30% on one of those priceless suits.

No, they won’t make your cellulite vanish or tan that pasty white skin… but they will stay where they ought to and stand up to all the wear and tear you can dish out. (But if they come out with a cellulite-reducing version, I’m gonna be all over that.)
