A time to buy, a time to wait

July 17, 2007 | Everyday Wisdom

Sumo was kind enough to point me to this article on what days to spend your money.

I think it’s a good read if you have a shaker of salt handy. Different stores have different rules, and if you do most of your shopping online (which I do, and I suspect most of my readers do), the day of the week is irrelevant.

Also, certain stores do markdowns in very regimented ways. You’re always best off shopping Target on the day they’re marking down the department you plan to shop in; but that day varies, you know?

I’m curious to hear others’ feedback on the article. Helpful or complete bunk?

More cheapie mags

Hot Hot Hot!

Some of these turn out to just be so-so deals and some are great deals, but here is the complete list of Amazon magazine subscriptions that carry an instant $5 rebate. I think the cheapest subscriptions end up being $3 for the year.

Magazines always ship free through Amazon, and count towards your minimum for Super Saver Shipping, too. Plus then you won’t send me those “I ordered through soandso and had terrible problems” emails (I hope). (Not that I mind those emails; I always want to know if I recommend a place that ends up being rotten, I just prefer it when everyone is happy.)

Brand new for refurb pricing

Hot Hot Hot!

I’m not sure why this is, but right now at Amazon the KitchenAid 5-quart mixer is just $199.99 in select colors (black, white, red, or cobalt). That’s generally the Friday Sale refurbished price, so an excellent deal.

If you’re not feeling the KitchenAid love, you’re likely not a baker. If you are a baker, then you know that nothing compares to this baby. (Sometimes I whisper sweet nothings to mine while it mixes dough. Don’t judge me.)

It’s that time again

Hot Hot Hot!

Eat out without breaking the bank! Head on over to Restaurant.com where you can buy $25 dining certificates for $10, normally, and use coupon code ENJOY to take 60% off. That’s $25 worth of food cooked by someone else for just $4. Coupon is valid through July 22nd, 2007.

If you’ve checked Restaurant.com before and not found any of your favorites listed, be sure to keep checking back. They’re adding new ones all the time. And I dunno about you, but for me, hope springs eternal when it comes to free food.

And some cool shoes for the little dudettes

For the kids, Hot Hot Hot!

I don’t know why I’m so shoe-happy today (moreso than usual, anyway). I just figured I’d throw this one out there as well.

A couple of weeks ago I realized we’d landed in Georgia smack in the middle of the summer and somehow my daughter didn’t have any play sandals. I started shopping and guess what I found? Nothing. I found nothing.

To be more accurate: I found that she could have flip-flops or platform sandals or any manner of other inappropriate-for-actual-play sandals. But finding sturdy sport sandals for girls in youth sizes proved nearly impossible.

I ended up buying her these Stride Rite Kids’ Terrapin Sandals at Endless, because they were under $15 shipped, they’re a bona fide sturdy sport sandal, and they come in bright pink. (They also come in boy colors, but there are boy sandals everywhere. I think the girl version is a rarity.)

They have no sequins, heels, cartoon characters, or tiny little decorative (read: useless) straps. They are real shoes for a real kid, and they’re downright cheap for Stride Rites. Just thought I’d share.

Cool shoes, dude

Hot Hot Hot!, What to Wear

Is your man looking for some casual shoes? Something not quite as casual as sneakers, but just as comfy? Look no further than the Lands’ End Men’s Regular Suede Sport Shoes, which happen to be marked down to just $12.99 right now. Shipping is $4.95.

Every pair of shoes I’ve ever gotten from Lands’ End I have worn until they fell apart. They are that comfortable. My guess is that these are well worth the nearly $40 they normally cost, and a downright steal at under $18 shipped. Snap ‘em up before they’re gone!

A Real Simple coupon

Hot Hot Hot!

Breathtakingly pretty reader Amanda was kind enough to let me know that if you use Real Simple products, you can get a $2 off coupon by going here.

I don’t know that I’ve ever used anything by Real Simple, but until they come out with my kind of line (Unnecessarily Complicated, perhaps?) I might have to check it out.

Thanks, Amanda!

It says right there, it’s the “Big Sale”

Hot Hot Hot!

Lillian Vernon OnlineFar be it from me to argue with a site’s ad copy. Lillian Vernon says it’s the Big Sale so it must be true. This sale it not small or even medium. It is definitely big.

If you’ve never shopping Lillian Vernon before, they have… well, nearly everything. But they have, in particular, a lot of really cute, personalizable (is that even a word?) stuff for kids. If you’re starting to think back-to-school, definitely check them out.

Sweeten the deal with a coupon: Use 777850100 for 15% off your $50+ order or 787850100 to ship your entire order for $4.98. Both codes are good through July 31st, 2007.

Insert rousing version of “Under the Sea” here

July 15, 2007 | Hot Hot Hot!

Is it possible that you’ve gotten to the middle of July and still need swimsuits? Hey, it happens. Sometimes the kid has a growth spurt. Or a “hey, what can I do with these scissors?” spurt. I understand.

Today happens to be the last day for the 75% off event at the Disney Swim Shop, so if you’re needing suits or towels or even really cute beach chairs for the kids, check it out.
