Archive for August, 2007

Are you an educator, student, or do you have a student in your family? If so, you always get a discount on your purchase of a Macintosh computer. You’ll never see any ginormous discounts on Macs, but the educational discount is a nice little perk (and they’ll let you take it if you have any kids in the house or a kid in college, so that’s nice).
Plus, now through September 16th, 2007, they’re having a back to school special for college students—buy a Mac and get a qualifying iPod for free. (This one doesn’t include younger students; you must be an educator or a college student.) Don’t want an iPod? No problem, get cash back instead.
(Pssst! Kailani emailed me to point out that you can also get a free printer with this deal. Thanks, Kailani!)
This post brought to you by the letter M (Macintosh), the number 10 (what time it is right now) and the fact that both of my (non-Mac) computers are dying. Alas.

Today—August 26th, 2007—only, you can take an additional 15% off the already steeply-reduced prices in the Disney Shopping Outlet by using coupon code OUTLET15. Just in case you’ve got a hankering for a little Mickey Mouse. Or any other of the billion characters they have over there.

After a lackluster few weeks, today’s On the Counter offerings at Lands’ End include 75 different deeply discounted items. You could wait for further price reductions, but then you run the risk of stuff selling out. Have a look.

Ahhhhhhh. It’s my favorite time of year; the kids are settling into their school routine, but they haven’t yet tired of it. Plus, Fall is coming! I know this because it’s been much cooler the last few days. Why, yesterday it only hit 98! Ahem.
Anyway, it’s Friday, and you know what that means. Yes, it’s time to delve into the Amazon Friday Sale to see what goodies we might discover.
This is the GPS unit
we own and I love it with a mad, passionate fervor that results in squeezing it and calling it George. Oh, okay… that’s not exactly true. We don’t call it George. It has a woman’s voice with a British accent. So we call her Audrey.
Always using batteries for your cameras, wireless mice, and the like? You need at least one great battery recharger
, if not two.
Because I am a 10-year-old boy at heart, what I love most about this Doodle Monster
is not that you can write on it or even the price, but that he appears to be licking his own intestines. Ewwww.
I showed this DeWalt set
to my husband and he tried to make a comment, but it was very difficult to understand him through all of the drooling.
I’m thinking of buying a few of these motion-sensing light sockets
, but I’m still trying to decide where to put them so as to torture my family most.
They can call this a “toning system
” all they want, but I know a Thighmaster when I see one.
This is one serious tent
. I doubt it would even fit inside my car, given that I’m pretty sure it’s three times as large as my car.
Do you like green eggs and hammocks
? (I hope so, because nothing rhymes with hammocks so that’s pretty much all I’ve got on that.)
I know we’ve had a lot of silverware deals lately, but have you ever looked at your flatware and said to yourself, “Self, what these need is more game birds
?”
Oooh, our favorite quesadilla maker
is back in the Friday Sale. Have you gotten one yet? Why not??
Did you know that Corelle makes stoneware
? This set qualifies for the $20 off on two sets promo I posted a few days back, too, so you could get yourself service for 8 for just $60 shipped.
My kids will eat these pita chips
like they’re candy. They’re really that good. (And I pay a lot more than that for them, usually.)
Have a great weekend, everyone!

If you’ve never shopped Plow and Hearth before, now’s the time. Through August 26th, 2007, you can use coupon code 4FREE to ship your order for free.
That goes for absolutely anything, of course, but the best deals are to be found in the Outlet.
And despite the store name, I haven’t seen a single plow. Go figure.

The older I get, the more I love Eddie Bauer. I don’t know if this is because I’m learning the value of better-made clothing or if I’m becoming an old fuddy duddy and really their stuff is boring (don’t answer that; I prefer to call it “classic”), but either way, I dig ‘em.
They’ve just reduced everything again. Shop the Eddie Bauer Outlet and take an additional 30% off the already reduced merchandise, automatically. Snap up a few summer pieces at these deeply discounted prices, and you’ll be set for next year.
Or if you live in the south like me, you still have several months to wear this stuff. Even better.

As annoying as I often find Paypal to be for doing things like dealing with eBay, it’s handy to have around. Like right now, for example—through September 5th, 2007, you can take $10 off your $40 order at Barnes & Noble if you pay with Paypal. Just use coupon code D9U3D3W.
Because it’s always a good time to buy more books.

I don’t know what this magazine is, possibly because I am old and decrepit and unhip, but it looks as though Spin is a more modern Rolling Stone. Or maybe I’m totally wrong and it’s all about making your own yarn. Either way, you can get yourself a free subscription if you’re interested.

I realize that not everyone is back to school yet, but my kids have been back for a couple of weeks, now, and the dreaded Fundraising Plague has already descended. Yes, the kids came home with glossy pamphlets of overpriced junk, all in the name of raising money for school.
I want the school to have money. I want the school to have buckets of money! The more the better! But I don’t want to buy this stuff, or try to sell it to others. It offends every sensible (read: frugal) bone in my body.
Instead, I try to keep the teachers in mind when I’m out snagging bargains; I donate supplies throughout the year and hope that’s equivalent, somehow, to hawking stationery.
Does anyone have any other creative ways of dealing with this? I’m open to suggestions, and I know you pretty, pretty people are not spending $8 on a roll of wrapping paper.

Every time I post about Dale & Thomas Popcorn, no matter how good of a coupon I include, people come and complain that Wow, that stuff is way too expensive! So, yes, fair warning: It’s expensive. Too expensive for you? Don’t buy it. Problem solved!
But if you’d like to try it, go check them out and try coupon code NANNY7 for $20 off. That’ll get you one of their 6-pack samplers for about $16 shipped, I think. Yes, that’s still a lot. Yummy stuff, though, and great for teacher gifts. Or eating late at night while the kids are in bed. Just sayin’.
