Little bargains are the next department over

January 28, 2008 | Quick Tips, What to Wear

I think I’ve mentioned this in passing before, but having just picked up some t-shirts for $2 apiece, I think it bears repeating: Don’t be afraid to walk into a different department at the store to find some deals. On What Not to Wear Stacy and Clinton are forever chiding grown women for shopping in Juniors—and well they should. If you’re an adult, please don’t dress like you’re fourteen, of course, but sometimes you can get tank tops (to wear under other things) or plain t-shirts (just check the length before you buy) for cheap in the Juniors department.

If you’re a larger woman, ditto for scooching over into Men’s. If you’re a very small woman, maybe you can even wear some stuff from Girls.

Again: This is not an invitation to dress inappropriately, just to think outside the box when it comes to a few basic items.

New markdowns at Lego (think Christmas!)

For the kids, Hot Hot Hot!

I know, I know; there is a certain part of the brain that starts to overheat, a little, at the mere idea of shopping for next Christmas in January. I understand. Still; the deals are hot when the deals are hot.

Alert and extremely pretty Want Not reader Beth pointed out that there’s a new crop of items in the Lego Outlet, including the Lego City Advent Calendaricon which is now down to just $6.98 (from $25). They do a new one of these every year, so this is the 2007 version, but the year isn’t on it anywhere, so feel free to stock up now for your Legomaniacs. Shipping is just $4.95 on orders up to $25, too.

I obviously can’t speak for you, but I may have vacuumed up a few little Lego dudes in my post-holiday cleaning frenzy. By accident. Mostly. So, um, this might be a good deal if you are atoning for something similar.

A new contest: Free groceries!

Contests

I realize that not all of my readers live in the Land of Kroger, but if you do, it could be your lucky day:

The nice folks at Kroger recently redesigned the Kroger.com site, and they’re trying to get the word out about all the new features you can find there, now. (I am particularly intrigued by the Gift Center ordering, where you can order your flowers and such before you even step foot in the store.) If you shop at Kroger, it’s definitely worth checking out. Trust me; finding the circular online is a lot easier than trying to dig it out of the recycling bin. Ahem.

Anyway, one lucky Want Not reader is going to receive a $25 Kroger gift card just for being so gosh-darned pretty. To enter, leave a comment on this post before Wednesday, January 30th, at 11:59 p.m. Winner will be determined by random drawing. One comment per person, please, and if you don’t live near a Kroger or know someone you can give the card to who does, well, sit this one out. More contests are coming, I promise.

Go!

Brilliant or frightening?

Groceries, Hot Hot Hot!

Here’s one I discovered this morning that still has me scratching my head….

Did you know that Omaha Steaks has an Overstocks section? I mean, hey, on the one hand—cheaper steaks and stuff! Yay! (And, um “and stuff” apparently includes… cookie dough. Of course.) On the other hand—do I really want to be eating meat labeled as an overstock?

I’m not really sure. But I thought I’d share, because I’m helpful like that.

20% off at Ulta

Hot Hot Hot!

Through Saturday, February 2nd, 2008 (ack, where did January go??), take 20% off your entire purchase at Ulta with coupon code 85525. Or you can use coupon code 85324 for $3.50 off $10+. Shipping is a flat $5.95, or free on orders of $50.

Ulta sells make-up and skin care products. If you favor any of the (expensive) items they carry, now would be a good time to replenish your supply. (Thanks for the heads up, Jamie!)

[Edited to add: Apparently some of the nicer brands are excluded from this promotion. Oops! Sorry for the confusion.]

And don’t forget pods are on sale

Groceries, Hot Hot Hot!

Whether you won a Senseo machine or bought yourself one on the shipping-only deal, be advised that right now Amazon is running a deal where you can take $10 off your purchase of 3 eligible Senseo products. Just add the items to your cart and use coupon code POD54455 at checkout.

Offer expires January 31st, 2008 (this Thursday), so get a move on if you want to become a pod person. (Dude, I have been waiting to use that line ever since I came across the Senseo deal….)

And the Senseo winner is. . .

Contests

… me!

Well, no, not really. But I went ahead and did the survey and paid $15 shipping for my Senseo, which I used for the first time this weekend. It made a mighty fine cup of coffee. And didn’t leave me with half a pot of coffee that I then forgot about and let get moldy on the back corner of the countertop. Not that that’s ever happened to me before. Moving on.

Also, your whopping 198 entries into this contest caused me to finally break down and figure out how to add numbers to your comments, because—guess what!—scrolling down and counting to 114 and then doing it a second time to make sure I had the right number was kind of a drag. So, see, I really won, here! A good cup of coffee and numbered comments!

Also, Patricia was commenter 114, and will be receiving her very own Senseo system completely free of charge. Congrats, Patricia!

Didn’t win this time? Don’t you fret, my pretties! I’ll be back with a new contest around lunchtime.

Get ‘em while they’re cheap

January 27, 2008 | Hot Hot Hot!

Today is the last day to take an additional 60% off of sale items at Classic Closeouts—just use coupon code 60SLASH to get your discount.

Shipping is automatically free on orders of $50+, though between the sale prices and the code I cannot imagine how you’d made it up to $50. Maybe if you bought one of everything….

Saturday deals, while I go clean

January 26, 2008 | Hot Hot Hot!

This afternoon a group of 8-year-old boys are descending upon my house. I have to go clean, so that their mothers don’t think I’m a slob. And then after they leave, I’ll have to clean again. I feel certain there is a flaw in this plan, somewhere, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Anyway! Don’t mind me. Here’s your Saturday assortment of deals:

I’ve got another free shipping deal for Lands’ End for you, and—as usual—get the best deals in the Overstocks Section to maximize your bargain high. Heh. Get free shipping through January 31st by using promo code COLD with PIN number 530153015.

Friend of Want Not Denise Altman asked me to let readers know that she has a bunch of Original Medela Pump In Style breast pumps—which are being discontinued in favor of the new Advanced model—and she’s clearing them out for $239 shipped, which includes a bonus container of nipple butter. (Oh, the Google trolls I am going to get for using the word nipple.) This is not the very cheapest I’ve seen this pump, but between the free shipping, bonus, and the warm fuzzies from supporting a small business, I do urge you to check her out if you’re in the market for a pump.

Blah blah blah blah Restaurant.com blah blah blah blah save 60% with coupon code EASY through January 31st blah blah blah blah $25 of dining for $4. Blah blah. (You know the drill by now.)

The Overstock weekender coupon is $15 off of a $300+ purchase through that there link. Time to buy a couch! Or a lifetime supply of vitamins. Either way.

Best Buy is having a big sale today. How unusual!

That should keep you busy for a while. If not, feel free to come on over and help me vacuum. It seems only fair, after all I’ve done for you.

Friiiiiiiiiiiday!

January 25, 2008 | Hot Hot Hot!

I don’t know about you, but this week has been jam-packed, for me, and I’m looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow more than is probably healthy. Until then, I shall have to keep myself happy with the Amazon Friday Sale.

My husband says this orbital sander is a good buy. I am just sitting here saying “orbital sander” over and over because after about the 6th time, it sounds dirty. And I am a child.

This Pilates kit is perfect for those of us with failed “get fit” resolutions. Besides, how can you resist something that claims to come with a “magic circle?”

I sort of love these shoes. I think they’ll go perfectly with the sweatpants I’m wearing right now. What?

The Circulon cookware set is $149.99, with a bonus free dutch oven if you buy enough to get your purchase up to $200. Or do the Anolon set for $129.99. Either one is a great way to start (or replace) your cookware in one fell swoop.

The unbreakable French press is back, and this time it comes with a free frother! Really, for $9.99 you can hardly go wrong on this one.

Been wanting an Electrolux? I hear they really suck. (Thank you, thank you. I’ll be here all week.) $350 shipped is actually a great price.

Need a sewing machine?

If your kid wears size 3 Huggies, you might want to stock up.

This is a whole lotta granola. I am just making an observation.

Happy Friday, everyone!
