Saturday deals

Good morning! The bad news on this dreary, rainy morning (here in Georgia, anyway) is that we are growing rather tired of all this gloominess. But the good news is that we really need the rain, and the garden I planted last weekend is loving it. (My son’s cabbage plant is twice the size it was when we stuck it in the ground. It’s… supercabbage!)

I’ll be hiding inside, today, to stay dry. But that just means there are more online bargains to be found….

The $5 t-shirt sale at Threadless is winding down; you only through the weekend to scoop up your cheap shirts. If you waited, the bad news is that many sizes have sold out. But the good news is that this weekend orders of $45+ ship for free!

Gearing up for summer? Check out the vast array of sale swimsuits at Lands’ End. (Seriously, there are hundreds of women’s suits in the Overstocks.) And don’t forget code ACTION with PIN 7396 for free shipping, or use code MARCH20 with PIN 4613 for 20% off, if that works out to be a better deal for you.

Through the end of the month, save 70% on your purchase at Restaurant.com with coupon code SAVE. That’s $25 of fine dining for just $3 out of pocket (and they take Paypal, too). Why wouldn’t you try it?

Kohls has their Saturday Power Hours going on, plus today only they’re giving free shipping on $100+ orders to everyone! Kohls card holders can also use coupon code MVCREQUAL for another 15% off, and NEW4600 gives everyone an additional 10% off.

Shopping at Macy’s this weekend? Spend $99+ on home or spring wardrobe items, and you can ship your order for free with coupon code FRESH.

The famous $199 suit sale at Jos. A. Bank is back, with automatic free shipping on orders of $175+. This is a great time to gently let your man know that he could use a little wardrobe help. Just sayin’.

Have Easter baskets (or birthday parties) on the brain? Right now at Oriental Trading, you can get free shipping on your $59+ order (automatically through that link), or use coupon code SPRINGTEN to take $10 off your $40+ order.

And don’t forget that as March finishes up, here, it’s your last chance to stock up on any Amazon Grocery Specials from this month that you liked. (Me, I may have to go back for another order of Cheddar Bunnies. Yum.)

Enjoy your Saturday, and stay dry!

A nice long Friday

My children had early dismissal several days this week. It was with no small measure of glee that I shoved them out the door this morning, knowing they’d be gone the entire day. Is that wrong? Don’t answer that.

Really, I was just overcome with excitement about the Amazon Friday Sale. Honest. Stop looking at me that way.

Of course, my daughter will never be old enough to go to a spring dance (ahem), but if she was, I bet she’d love this little dress. And then we could have a fight about whether or not she should wear a cardigan over it. Yay!

I don’t have this Oster convection toaster oven, but I have one a lot like it, and I don’t know how I ever lived without it. I love the convection oven more than my microwave. To get an Oster for $75 shipped seems like a great deal, too.

Get a professional quality Anolon cookware set for $180 shipped. It kind of makes me wish I needed to replace all of my pots and pans, instead of just a few pieces.

These Egyptian cotton towels have mixed reviews, but for that price ($20.99 for a set of 6) I might chance it.

Wishing you’d picked up more Numi’s Flowering Tea sets around the holidays? Here’s your chance! They’re $12.50 today.

Oh, how I love Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. With Subscribe & Save, these come out to $16.74 shipped for 24 (about $.70 apiece). That’s cheaper than I can buy them in the store, and as long as I have children in the house, I will have a Magic Eraser stash. (Can I get an “Amen!”?)

Get 700 eco wipes for baby for $18.69 shipped with Subscribe & Save. It’s been a long time since I bought wipes, so I’m not sure if that’s a good deal or not, but it seems like it might be.

Don’t forget to check out today’s Friday Five, five MP3 album downloads for just $5 each. Today they’ve got a good batch of Girl Power going on—Ella Fitzgerald is up there with Madonna. That makes me laugh, for some reason.

Here’s to a great Friday!

The end there is a rhetorical question

So, today only (Thursday, March 26th, 2009), all Naturalizer shoes at 6pm.com are just $19.95. I took a quick look and there are hundreds of shoes from which to choose, some of which are really, really cute.

Does this mean that Naturalizer has gotten more hip over the years, or that I am now officially old and find ugly shoes adorable? (Don’t answer that.)

Trade in, save big

Did you know that you can trade in your old video games at Amazon? It’s true! And if you trade in before April 12th, 2008, in addition to your gift card, two games will get you $10 off and four games will get you $20 off select new releases.

Now; can I trade in the annoying games we own without the kids noticing…?

Cool or creepy?

I’m on the fence about this GE Designer PhotoPhone at Buy.com; on the one hand, an expandable DECT 6.0 (that’s geek-speak for “excellent range without static”) cordless phone combined with a 7″ digital photo frame for $49.99 seems like an awesome deal. And being able to assign pictures to the caller ID so that you can actually see who’s calling—even from across the room—is intriguing.

On the other hand, do you put in a picture of Beelzebub to come up every time a telemarketer calls, or what? Hmmmmm.

Pollen season is upon us

Well, it’s upon us here in the south. Maybe not so much up north, yet, but down here? Every day we wake up to a wonderland that includes a skim coat of yellow pollen on everything. The driveway, the car, the mailbox. Let’s just say I tell the kids to keep moving whenever they’re outside.

Last year was our first pollen season here, and I was delighted to discover that my child who’s allergic to everything was perfectly fine. I’d been warned of this—it usually takes a season to acclimate to new pollens, and then the following year the allergies begin. Still, I was somehow surprised this year when the poor kid started sneezing and scratching. It’s like he walked right out of one of those commercials: red, watery eyes; runny nose; little barky cough. Pitiful! So yesterday I went and bought him some generic Claritin. It cost $14 for 30 pills, which seemed ridiculous.

This morning I went straight to Amazon and confirmed my suspicion that this magical loratadine can be had much cheaper. For just a few dollars more, I can get 300 pills. Ten times as much for a couple more bucks, shipped free to my door? I’m in.

Another chance to ship it for free

Did you miss out on the last free shipping code at Lands’ End? Don’t worry—it’s like missing your train. Another one always comes along.

Through the end of March, use coupon code ACTION with PIN 7396 to ship your order free of charge, regardless of cost.

This is particularly handy when you’ve ordered something for the kids, and once it arrived it’s so unbearably cute you decide you need another one of whatever it was you got. Not that that’s ever happened to me.

Reminder: Friends Forever contest

Don’t forget—you have until just before midnight tonight to enter to win your choice of Friends Forever doll!

This would be a wonderful gift for that special girl in your life, or if you still enjoy playing with dolls, for you. I won’t tell anyone.

Don’t forget to enter on the contest post, as I cannot be held responsibility from mockery that may result from trying to enter on this post.

Grocery store best and worst

I’m not in much of a shopping mood today. I find myself unmoved even by deals on shoes, which is a sure sign that I need professional help. And probably more caffeine.

Regardless, today I’m thinking about my grocery bill. Just to be perfectly clear: I am not one of those ninja couponers. I don’t have the time, and I don’t buy many of the things you can usually buy with coupons (most of those items are usually things which—if we do use them—I can buy in bulk, at a significant savings, on Amazon). I think I do okay, though, by shopping the sales, buying in-season, and planning meals. But I would like to do better.

Time for a bit of grocery group therapy! I’ll start!

Best: My biggest budget “success” this past year, I’d say, was the switch to dried beans. I used to think dried beans were somehow scary and difficult to prepare. Because I was a moron. After making them in the crock pot (so easy!) I can freeze and pull out as needed. I haven’t bought a can of beans since I started doing that, which means I’m saving money and space. (Yes, we eat a lot of beans.)

Worst: I feel like I spend half our grocery money on milk/cheese/yogurt. Even on sale (and/or with coupons), the organic stuff is expensive. I’m drawing ever-closer to attempting to make my own yogurt. But until I figure out how to either make my own Muenster cheese or make my children stop inhaling it, I may be in trouble.

Your turn.
