Dahling, you look mahvelous

I don’t want to get into a discussion about the American ideal of female beauty and how we all needlessly beat ourselves up for not having the “right” body or whatever. As women in this country we’re basically just hosed. Let’s agree to that, and move on.

That said, I don’t want to be wearing a corset or other mystical contraption designed to make me look better but that cuts off my ability to breathe, you know? I’d rather be a little lumpy but comfortable than smooth and in pain. Heh.

But what’s awesome is that now there’s Yummie Tummie, stealthy lump-concealing layering pieces that look (and feel) like regular clothing. The nice folks at Yummie Tummie hooked me up with a couple of skinny tanks and I love them; I tend to layer tank tops under other shirts, already, but these just kind of… smooth me out. While looking to the naked eye just like all of my other tanks.

Today we’re sharing the love—one lucky Want Not reader is going to win a $100 gift certificate to shop at Yummie Tummie. Want to win it? Of course you do! First go review the contest rules and regulations and then come back here and leave a comment on this post by 11:59 p.m. Eastern (8:59 p.m. Pacific) on Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 to be entered. Winner to be determined by random number drawing and generally sassiness. Because you don’t need a Yummie Tummie—you’re already plenty yummy—but their stuff is so cute and comfy, why not?

Ready? Go!

Yes, please

Time to eat out again! Through the end of the month (just a couple of days from now; can you believe it?), use coupon code CHEF at Restaurant.com to take 80% off your certificate purchase. That means you’ll get $25 worth of fine dining for just $2 out of pocket, and a whole new excuse to spend a night on the town.

Mmmm… my favorite kind of food: The kind someone else cooked and will clean up after!

Snakeskin and journals and woks, oh my

It seems that the Target Daily Deals writer is taking a cue from the folks over at Woot; today they’re urging you to “Wok This Way” for their featured deal (a wok, obviously). It’s not a bad deal on a cheap wok, if you’re in the market for such a thing, but the real bargains, I think, are the BCBG snakeskin pumps (rowr!) and the pink leather “pirate’s life for me” journal—perfect for your favorite edgy, angsty teen.

Don’t forget that the daily deals always come with free shipping, which makes ‘em even sweeter.

I might need those shoes. Just so that I can pretend I’m a lot cooler than I actually am.

The best gets even better

If you’re shopping for an electronic, chances are you’re going to check out Best Buy. And why not? They carry darn near everything, and their sales are often really good.

Today’s the last day of their big Fall Sale event, and if you order online you don’t have to jockey for a spot in the parking lot or lug a large box to your car. Orders of $25+ ship for free, too, so you’re saving aggravation and gas money. Win-win!

If you need me, I’ll be over here, drooling over the flat-panel TVs. Which I’m not buying. Because my crummy television refuses to die. (Not that I’m bitter….)

Wiitastic!

Been waiting for a sale to pick up a Wii? After 2+ years at $240, discounts are finally here!

Order your Nintendo Wii console from Amazon today for just $200 shipped, plus get a $25 Amazon gift card.

I mean, yes, there may be an even steeper discount closer to the holidays, but this is a pretty good deal. And having it sitting up on the closet shelf well ahead of Holiday Shopping Madness trumps the extra $5 you might save later. Just sayin’.

Saturday deals

Goood morning! It’s raining again. Thank goodness—those twelve inches we got last week just left me thirsty for more. Ahem.

Today is Free Museum Day! This is your chance to get a little bit of culture on the cheap.

Hey, remember the Amazon deal on maple syrup, where everything sold out just about immediately? It’s baaaaaack! Items have been restocked, and between 35% off coupon BASCOM35 and the 15% off you’ll get with Subscribe & Save, you’re looking at some uber-cheap genuine maple syrup. I’m stocking up (particularly as I’ve finally found the gluten-free pancake recipe I love).

Also at Amazon, today’s Gold Box Deal is the Sirius Stiletto 2 radio for just $100 shipped. Apparently this is a very cool item if you do the satellite radio thing; I don’t, but my husband began salivating when this unit came out, so that probably means something. Park it in your house or car for use like a regular satellite receiver, or take it on the go like your favorite MP3 player. Pretty nifty.

$15 Pro-Keds are back at 6pm.com this weekend! Cute, cute, cute.

The weekend sale is on at Kohls, with standard $.99 shipping per item. Kohls card holders can use coupon code BEST4MVC15 for another 15% off and THISIS4FREE for free shipping. No Kohls card? Use NEW2757 for an additional 10% off, anyway.

I wouldn’t say this is something anyone should go out and buy on a whim, but if you’ve been pricing one of these out, today may be your day: Today (September 26th, 2009) only, get $100 off the Margaritaville Explorer Cordless Frozen Concoction Maker. It’s normally $300, but today if you use coupon code CHILLIN100 it comes down to $200. (No, I’m not buying one. Yes, I will totally come over and admire yours if you do.)

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go get started on that ark….

Friday Sale, it’s all for you

I got up at 5:00 for this week’s Amazon Friday Sale, so it’d better be good. (I’m lying. I got up at 5:00 for the dog. And she’s cute and all, but she has yet to save me any money. Sooooo….)

And… hey, does anyone else notice that the Friday Sale seems to be missing several categories? And, um, anything good…? Yeesh. I mean, there’s some good deals on Bond movies on Blu-ray in the Gold Box, but other than that, unless you want some tools, meh.

I guess I’m going to have to get my bargain fix elsewhere, today.

The daily deals at 6pm.com feature Two Lips, Vaneli, and DC. Plus there’s still some good weekly deal stuff (hello, Nine West!).

I wouldn’t recommend the (cheap) knife set featured in today’s Target Daily Deals, but I’m kind of loving those Rocket Dog shoes. And that Chinese Laundry tote is adorable.

You’ve got just a few days left to shop the Fall Sale at Banana Republic, and through Saturday you can use coupon code BRSAVE20 to save $20 on your $75+ order. Alternatively, shop Old Navy and use code ONPLUS15 for 15% off and free shipping with your $75+ order.

Sorry for the slim pickings. I totally would’ve made the dog wait if I’d had any idea what a lackluster deal day it was going to be….

I’m in excellent company

So you know how I’ve got all of these cool new Frigidaire appliances as part of their campaign to help moms find more “me time?” Today it was announced that Jennifer Garner is teaming up with Frigidaire to help support Save The Children.

To read more about what they’re hoping you’ll do (give an hour towards kids in need before we reset the clocks on November 1st), check out this post at Mom Central. And then go visit Frigidaire.com to pledge one hour of your time towards children in need, and be entered for a chance to win a brand new professional double oven.

Pretty great, right? Gosh, it’s a good thing I have all these shiny new appliances. Otherwise I might feel a little drab next to Jennifer Garner….

Here’s another Friends/Family bandwagon

I saw on Facebook this morning that Lands’ End is having their Family and Friends event right now, too. Through Monday, September 28th, 2009, use code LESAVE25 and PIN 6325 to get free shipping and save 25%! It says “free shipping on nearly everything,” so I’m guessing if you buy something heavy there may be a shipping surcharge. Should work fine on clothes and such, though.

Lands’ End recently booted most of their affiliates from the program so that they could pursue an “alternate marketing strategy,” whatever that means, but despite them having dumped me (*sniffle*) I am just having a hard time holding a grudge. What can I say? I like their stuff. And with coupons like these, I’m putty in their hands.

That’s the way, uh huh uh huh, she likes it

Like most tweens attending public school in our fine country, my daughter loves absolutely everything that comes from Justice for Girls. We, uh, don’t always see eye-to-eye on whether or not all of the things they offer are appropriate for young ladies (ahem), but I do find that some of their stuff is cute and it always makes for excellent bargaining chips. (Also—did I mention this before?—they’re one of the only places I’ve found which carries training bras in beige, which is useful if your daughter wears a white uniform shirt. Just saying.)

Anyway, they’ve got a new coupon available; use code 776 for 40% off your entire order, through September 29th, 2009. That brings their prices down to affordability, and makes it a lot easier for you to be the Cool Mom.
