Must. Resist.

I know many of you have cursed the day I introduced you to 6pm.com. It’s the site I personally love to hate, as I need no encouragement when it comes to buying pretty shoes on sale, already, and I often find myself justifying a purchase with, “But it’s such a good deal.”

I’m trying to be good. Actually, I haven’t bought a pair of shoes in months.

But I’m not sure I can resist the lure of Danskos for just $40. I tried on some Danskos, once. It was like walking on buttered unicorn breath. And that doesn’t even make any sense. That’s how comfy they were. They were also $95, so, you know, those shoes got left behind at the store. But $40? I’m only human, people.

But not the jeans, darn it

A couple of weeks ago I posted:

Shop The Children’s Place this month, and you can use coupon code HA99 for 15% off any order, or bulk up the savings by using code PDA99 for $20 off your $80+ order. Both coupons are good through the end of October, and the Fall Sale is underway and Halloween costumes are on sale, too.

Of course now the 30% off Fall Items and Costumes Sale has turned into the 50% off Fall Items and Costumes Sale, so I ran over there—all excited to finally get some jeans for my son—only to discover that the denim is still regular price. Hmph.

But, you know, 50% off lots of other stuff, anyway.

Yummy, portable fruit

As the cold weather moves in, I’m all about portable, shelf-stable fruit options for the kids’ lunches, because I’m not buying peaches from Romania or whatever once everything’s out of season. Hmph. (And yes, I love apples, but there are only so many apples we can eat….)

I just picked up some strawberry banana crisps on special at Amazon; the 24-pack comes out to $10.15 in your cart, so it’s about $.42 a bag. Eligible for Prime or free Super Saver Shipping on $25+.

There’s nothing inside but delicious, freeze-dried fruit. My kids think this stuff is candy. (Shhhh. Don’t tell them.)

Report to the Ministry of Silly Walks

It should come as no surprise that I’m a huge Monty Python fan; I’ve been known to encourage my kids to eat a little more at dinner by assuring them that “it’s only waff-er thin!” (No, they don’t get it, but it always makes me laugh.)

So for someone like me—or maybe your favorite Monty Python geek—getting the Complete Monty Python’s Flying Circus Collector’s Edition DVD Set from Buy.com for just $45 shipped is something of a dream come true. (For comparison: It’s currently $85 at Amazon.)

And yes, I may have just the teensiest little crush on John Cleese, but that’s still an incredible deal.

Don’t have sad windows

I’m pretty sure I’ve raved about Blinds Galore here before, but I’m going to tell the story again because I think it’s such a good one: After having the cheap blinds on our family room window first stop working, then fall off in my hands (fancy!), I started shopping around for replacements. And I promptly died, because goodness but window coverings are expensive. After much research, I came across a special at Blinds Galore that fit our needs, and I ordered some new blinds.

I ordered three blinds, and what I received was an open box with two (damaged) blinds and the third MIA. That was disappointing, to say the least. But the happy ending to this story is that I called Blinds Galore and received the best customer service I’ve ever had—they were only too happy to replace my order, no questions asked, and terribly apologetic for my inconvenience. They even called back to make sure everything was okay, after I got the replacement. I was very impressed, and a week later I went and joined their affiliate program. Because, really, how many window coverings do I expect to sell through Want Not? Not very many, but I really like this company and how they do business, so I’m happy to promote them.

So here you go: Through October 26th, shop Blinds Galore and take 25% off your Levolor purchase with code LEVSAVE, or take 20% off everything else with code FALLSAVE. Free shipping, too. and like I said, the customer service is fantastic, so you can order with confidence.

Good news and bad news

The good news is that there’s a couple of great offerings today in the Target Daily Deals; both the little red tea-for-two set I love for just $15, and a cool-looking outdoor bistro table with a built-in heater for $160 shipped. (You’re making a killing on the free shipping, there—that sucker weighs 70 pounds.) If you’re buying the table—or making another purchase that totals $50+—don’t forget to activate the $5 off $50 coupon, through this link.

I can just hear you. “That’s great, Mir, but what’s the bad news?” Well, the bad news is that the featured deal of the day is already sold out at 6:00 a.m. I guess you’ll have to get your screamin’ deal on a fake diamond ring somewhere else.

(Can you picture that proposal? “Oh, darling, you shouldn’t have! Wait… is this… you bought my engagement ring at Target? Get out! Get! OUT!”)

You’re an employee, right?

Hey, today you can take advantage of the Fashion Bug employee discount of 30% off everything, just because. I’m pretty sure you don’t even have to go get a job there.

Also, you can stack it with coupon code 776290603 for $10 off your $30+ order, too. (Edited to add: The code also seems to be giving free shipping! Woohoo!)

They have lots of accessories that make great gifts, too, if you’re not shopping for yourself. Just sayin’.

Rock out with your phone out

This past summer I attended the BlogHer conference, which was—among other things—Swag Central. The Expo Hall floor was like someone had taken a PR headquarters, added in Christmas and all of your birthdays, shaken vigorously, and topped off the results with freebies coated in gold. It was rather unreal.

The nice folks at T-Mobile had a booth where you could spin a giant wheel to win a prize. I had some time on my hands and they were giving away chocolate, so I took a spin. And I won a Nokia 5610 XpressMusic*, which (you’ll see if you click through that link to the CNET review) is a slick little music player phone, perfect for anyone who wouldn’t be caught dead without their tunes.

I have an iPhone, so as adorable as this little red phone is, it’s not for me. Maybe it’s for you? For a chance to win this little beauty, simply leave a comment on this post by 11:59 p.m. Eastern (that’s 8:59 p.m. Pacific) on Wednesday, October 21st, 2009 to be entered. Winner to be determined by random drawing and best rendition of “Single Ladies.”

And really, who amongst us doesn’t know a tween or teen who would shriek with delight to get receive a shiny red music-playing phone?

Go!

*This is a T-Mobile phone and must be activated on the T-Mobile network to be used as a calling device. Two pieces of good news, however: First, I’m pretty sure you can use it as an MP3 player without activating it; and second, T-Mobile offers a variety of pre-paid plans, so you could always buy some minutes rather than committing to a contract, if you’d like to activate it but not make a long-term thing out of it.

But I would like a pink blender

I don’t know; on the one hand, I’m still mourning the fact that apparently Kohls has decided to be stingy with free shipping, now. On the other hand… it’s Kohls. They have everything. And great sales. (Plus, today’s Deal of the Day is a pink KitchenAid Cook for the Cure blender, and it’s adorable.)

Sigh.

Be all that as it may, right now they’re offering flat $4.99 shipping on every order, automatically. So that’s good. Furthermore, you can still save an additional 15% with your Kohls charge card and coupon code MVCNEW.

Many of the kids’ jeans are buy one pair, get another pair half off. I’m still trying to decide if that’s cheap enough for me, though the plummeting temps and the sudden shrinkage of all of my sons pants may make it a moot point….

The Want Not Review: Make It Fast, Cook It Slow

Let me just be perfectly transparent on this: I received a copy of this book for free, from Stephanie, because Steph is a friend of mine and a very generous person. But I am also telling you the God’s honest truth when I tell you that Stephanie has changed the way I cook; gone are the days when my crock pot was merely for stews and soups. I consider this woman nothing short of genius, and if I want to rave about her cookbook, well then, I will.

Really, does Stephanie O’Dea need any introduction here? She’s the mastermind behind A Year of Slow Cooking, and she used her crock pot every single day in 2008 just for our amusement. And for her cookbook, Make It Fast, Cook It Slow: The Big Book of Everyday Slow Cooking, which just came out from Hyperion.

How do I love this cookbook? Let me count the ways: (more…)
