I now officially want to punch myself

Listen, you know I’m all about the deal; the cheaper the better, natch.

Which is why I have to tell you that I had a terrible moment of cognitive dissonance a minute ago. I saw these skybar wine chill drops and of course thought, “$50 for little thingies to chill your wine??!”

… but on the heels of that I thought, “Whoa. Those are really cool.”

And that’s when I had to put my head down on my desk and take a deep breath and remind myself just because they can make stuff like that, doesn’t mean I have to like it. Much.

Okay, off to try to smack the bourgeois off myself….

Fabulous hair, fabulous price

In the discussions of the Very Best Flat Iron, I of course am an advocate for GHD, because that’s the brand I own (heh). But the brand I hear most often is the Farouk CHI—if nothing else, it seems to be the best-known salon-brand when it comes to flat irons.

And the one model that absolutely fascinates me is the wet-to-dry CHI, which allows you to iron wet hair to dryness. It seems impossible to me, but skipping that blow-drying step must be pretty sweet.

Anyway, if you follow the above link you’ll see the iron offered through an Amazon seller for $95. But if you check the right-hand “More Buying Choices” column? You’ll see it offered directly by Amazon for just $50! (The free stand and pouch you get with it are valued at $50, so it’s like getting the iron for free.) It’s listed as currently out of stock and will ship when available, which may mean it’s a price mistake and orders will be canceled, or it may mean you’ll get really, really lucky. Hard to know. But $50 for a CHI? That’s just crazytalk.

Time for tasty savings

Fresh out of Restaurant.com certificates? No worries! You can hop on over there and use coupon code BONUS to take 80% off your purchase, netting you $25 dining certificates for just $2 out of pocket. New restaurants are constantly being added, so you never know when you can plan to eat out for $23 less than usual.

Be sure to read the fine print; most restaurants have a minimum purchase requirement, and some have day-of-week or other restrictions. Still, if you can make it work for you, it’s like free money.

New coupons always make me happy

If you’re headed over to Kohls this week and you’re bemoaning the lack of free shipping codes, lately, fear not! Right now you can use coupon FREEJAN for free shipping, plus you can use coupon code SHOPNSAVE for 15% off, too.

There’s a bunch of toys on sale. Just in case you need more toys.

See what I did there? I made a funny. Hee.

I whisper sweet nothings to it, sometimes

I think I’ve shared here the story of how I bought my husband a Blu-ray player for his birthday, thinking I was totally awesome, only to discover that it wouldn’t work with our (ancient) television. So I ended up buying us a new TV, too.

Um. Oops.

The television I got was this 50″ Panasonic Viera when it was on a Black Friday deal at Amazon, and it’s currently just $625 shipped from Buy.com, plus you can grab a $25 instant coupon, so it’s just $600!

Which is $100 less than I paid. Not that I’m bitter, or anything.

Panasonic is evidently discontinuing the Viera line, but I don’t know why. Although this model is only 720p (not 1080p), even my very visually critical husband is wowed. I think it’s a heckuva set. Of course, I also am fairly overwhelmed by it’s size and shininess, so there’s that, too.

Winners of the Elizabeth Kostova contest

I owe you all an apology. Not only did I fall down on announcing the winners from last week’s contest, I utterly neglected to put up a new contest yesterday. In my defense I can only tell you that I’ve been uprooting and rearranging my office, and some days it was lucky that I could even find the dog in all the mess.

By way of compensation, though, I can tell you that I found all kinds of stuff while I was moving, and in the next week or two we may have a “Mir’s cluttered office” liquidation giveaway, where y’all get to win various books and samples I totally forgot I even had. So. There’s always that to look forward to.

Anyway, today the random number generator and I cozied up with a cup of coffee and selected the five winners of last week’s contest to win two Elizabeth Kostova novels. Hooray!

Without further ado, the winners are: TinaH (commenter 246), Krista (commenter 95), exile on mom street (commenter 151), glittersmama (commenter 134, and—last but not least—Karen (commenter 17). Congratulations, winners—please check your email!

Big thanks to all who played, and special thanks for the continued generosity of our friends at Hachette Book Group, who are singlehandedly keeping us all in awesome reading material these days.

Didn’t win this time? There’s always another chance coming up, don’t fret!

Another chance for a groovy Nuvi

Been waiting for a deal on a Garmin Nuvi? Go quick—right now there’s an Amazon Lightning Deal offering the Garmin Nuvi 1200 for just $100 shipped. It’s got text-to-speech and pretty much everything you might want, and that’s about as good a price you’re going to find on it.

It’ll sell out quick, though. You snooze, you lose! Or you get lost. Whatever.

Good news, bad news

So I hopped on over to 6pm.com this morning and noted that Skechers are 60% or more off, and immediately I thought “Maybe this is my chance to get a pair of those goofy Shape-Ups that everyone is talking about,” and commenced searching for them.

The bad news is that the Shape-Ups don’t appear to be included in this promotion. So if you were hoping for your very own discount pair of Frankenshoes in the name of toned thighs, this is not the time and place for that particular deal. Alas.

The good news is that there’s pages and pages of great shoes—many in the $10-$20 range. And when did Skechers start making such cute sandals?? There’s some hardcore adorable happening over there.

Squeaky clean teeth

I’ve had my ultrasonic toothbrush for about six years, now, and it’s finally starting to give up the ghost. So I’ve been poking around looking at getting a new one.

That’s how I happened to discover that right now, the Sonicare FlexCare with Sanitizer is down to just $130 shipped at Amazon. Still hardly chump change, but it’s a good $20 cheaper than I’ve seen it elsewhere.

There’s also a $15 rebate available, too, that would make it $115. If it lasts me another six years, that’s… less than $20/year. Hey, when I think about it like that, it seems a lot cheaper. Heh.
