Reminder: Katie Crouch contest

Just a reminder—you have until just before midnight tonight to enter to win two Katie Crouch novels and have yourself some new reading material. For this contest we’re going to have five winners each receive a pair of books, so your odds are a lot more favorable than if there was just one prize. (Note to my 5th grade math teacher: You were right, statistics and probability did come in handy!)

As always, please be sure to leave your comment on the contest post in order to enter. Comments left on this reminder post intended to enter you into the contest will not only not be eligible, but may cause you be mocked by Want Not regulars.

If you simply must leave a comment on this post, feel free to discuss the weather. Here, I’ll start: It’s 75 and sunny here, so I was finally able to open up my office door, whereupon my dog promptly parked herself in a sunny spot to roast her furry little rump. (This was my view from over the side of my desk.) Your turn!

Light up the night, a little or a lot

I grew up with these cool emergency lights in our house; they were plug-in nightlights that essentially turned into flashlights whenever the power went out or you unplugged them. Handy to have around in the event of an emergency, or—if you were me—very handy to have so as to read a book after bedtime. (Sorry, Mom!)

As an adult I have tried to find something similar on the cheap for years; every inexpensive no-name brand I’ve tried has died within weeks and been useless. But today Buy.com has the Energizer Light on Demand Center for just $9 shipped, and it’s a trusted name and a decent price. (Comparison: Though it’s currently defaulting to the Buy.com option, Amazon’s regular price is $28.)

Plug it in, and it’s a regular darkness-sensing nightlight. Lose power, and it turns into an area light. Lift out the “stick” and you’ve got a long-life flashlight.

I’d say that’s perfect for keeping monsters away and finishing that book after hours.

More ways to enjoy your last day of Prime

I’m getting all misty, thinking about how today is the last day of my free Amazon Prime trial. *sniffle* I’m not quite sad enough to pony up the yearly fee, you understand, but let’s just say I’m feeling a little wistful.

Also, I’m feeling like I want to get every last bit of free-two-day-shipping goodness out of it before it’s gone. Heh.

I’m digging this Playskool Toys Promotion where any combination of eligible items gets you an additional $5 off of $50 at checkout. Granted, $5 isn’t much, but check out the discounts already going on—they’ve got the iconic Busy Ball Popper already at 41% off, and this Walk N Ride for 55% off.

For the older kids, they’ve just marked down the hot new Pokemon DS games—SoulSilver and HeartGold are down to just $32 and $28, respectively. In the meantime, the whole family can get their groove on with Just Dance for the Wii, which is down to $24.54 and has great reviews. (Oh, man… be sure to watch the videos on the Just Dance page. Hilarious!)

And it can all be here in time for the weekend. And then it’s back to Super Saver Slow As Molasses Shipping. Sigh.

Another shot at your silverware (and other stuff)

Some of you looked longingly at last week’s deal on silverware sets at Oneida but didn’t partake for one reason or another—the timing wasn’t right, or they didn’t have what you wanted/needed, or whatever. Not every deal is for every person at every time, of course. But if you missed out and felt kind of bummed about it, here’s another chance to scoop up a deal over there: Today (still March 31st) only, use coupon code BL15 to take 15% off your order at Oneida.

Did you know Oneida makes cookware and bakeware? I didn’t. Probably because I was too busy drooling all over the silverware.

Have enough left over for the trip

Weren’t we just talking about luggage recently? I think we were. And of course the age-old dilemma is how to get the luggage you need without, you know, spending the money you need for the actual travel.

Today (March 31st, 2010, ohmygoshwheredidMarchgo?) only, Kohls has all luggage at least half off, and that means it’s the right time to finally replace Ye Olde College Duffel.

Shipping is automatically free on orders of $75+, and Kohls card holders can use coupon code GRAND15 for an additional 15% off. No Kohls card? Use code NEW6381 for 10% extra off, anyway.

The icing on the cake? It’s Kohls Cash time, so you’ll also get $10 back for future purchases on every $50 you spend. You can use it next month to buy yourself a cute outfit for that trip. Just a suggestion.

While I virtuously eat a grapefruit

Have I mentioned this whole healthy-eating thing I’ve been doing? Yes? Six or seven hundred times? Good thing I’m not bitter about it, or anything. Ahem.

So, sure, I personally won’t be indulging in today’s Amazon Gold Box Deal, which happens to be your choice of four different decadent flavors of Ghirardelli Chocolate Squares, but maybe you would be interested, particularly if today is the last day of your free Prime trial (it is for me) and the Easter Bunny has refined taste.

6 bags of Ghirardelli squares for $14.50. It’s like Amazon is mocking me.

That’s a lotta wipes

Need baby wipes? Amazon has 6 tubs of Pampers Clean ‘n Go Baby Wipes available for just $11.49, which is a mere $.03/wipe—just make sure you select Amazon from the “More Buying Choices” box down on the lower right of the page (it’s currently defaulting to Target).

Looks like it doesn’t ship for a couple of weeks, but if you use wipes, it may be worth the wait. (Heck, I still use wipes. My “baby” is 10.) (Um, just to be clear, we use them to clean up hands and faces and stuff. Not for anything else. Heh.)

On a beachy chair built for two

It’s true that I’m dreaming of lazy summer days, but even given my bias, I’m pretty sure there’s no denying the utter cuteness (not to mention utilitarianism) of this beach chair and umbrella set for two at Brylane Home. It’s two chairs, a cooler/tabletop, and an umbrella to keep you cool, and it’s marked down to just $40. Add coupon code BHKPX20 for an additional 20% off to get another $8 taken off, which nearly handles the shipping ($9).

I’m thinking that’d be a mighty nice Father’s Day gift. Or a mighty nice “despite these crazy children surrounding us and demanding food, clothing, shelter, and attention, you’re still the only one I want to sit with” gift.

It almost makes me want to quilt

I am not a quilter, or a crafter, or a scrapper. I only craft things which involve words or food, and everything else is just not part of my domain.

But I start poking around at fabric.com and I find myself wondering if it’s too late to learn how to sew. Because some of their stuff is just really, really cute.

Check out the clearance—there’s fabrics as low as $1.99/yard, and coupon code 2WMYP9 will give you an extra 25% off! (I spy with my little eye some Olivia the Pig fabric that made my ovaries hurt. And I don’t even have ovaries anymore. Ow.)

It’s like coupon roulette

Did you know that the “coupon book” in the middle of your Amazon Grocery Page isn’t static? That is to say, if you load that page and none of the coupons appeal to you, refreshing will bring up different coupons!

I refreshed three or four times today, for example, because it offered me a coupon for $3 off of Align Probiotics (which is actually something we use, and is pretty pricey). It turns out that right now the Align 28-count box is already marked down, plus it drops to just $16.95 when you buy via Subscribe & Save, plus I now get $3 off thanks to my coupon.

Total cost from Amazon: $13.95 to my door.
Total cost from my local grocery store: $28, plus I have to drive there and probably listen to either a long story about Bakugan or some involved he-likes-her-but-she-likes-this-other-guy story. I’d say my choice is pretty clear.

Remember, if you don’t see coupons you like, refresh, refresh again!
