Minty fresh

Did you know that Burt’s Bees makes toothpaste? They do, and—like all Burt’s Bees products—it’s made from gentle, natural ingredients. If you go fill out a little form for them you can get either a free sample or a coupon for $1 off a full-size tube. (It signs you up for their newsletter, so either use your handy-dandy junk email address for just that purpose, or unsubscribe later.)

I’m still looking for one flavored with so-irresistible-the-kids-will-beg-to-brush, but I guess mint, orange and berry are a little easier to distill. Hmph.

Shoes, glorious shoes

One of the featured deal categories at 6pm.com today is kids’ athletics for under $25. And you know how I like it when I can do my shopping under the guise of “for the kids” and then, of course, as long as I’m already paying shipping, maybe just a little something for me….

What? The kids need shoes, man.

A reluctant addict

Oh Lands’ End, I can’t stay mad at you, even though you unceremoniously booted all “bargain bloggers” from your affiliate program. Your classic styles, your plethora of slim-size pants, and—perhaps above all—your abundant free shipping codes keep me coming back for more.

You win for now, Lands’ End.

(Use coupon code PATIO with PIN 2129 for free shipping through the end of March. But just do me a favor and grumble under your breath, just a little, while you shop.)

Pull up some sweet tea and your reading glasses

It’s been a little while since we had a good book giveaway, and I can think of nothing I like better as the weather warms and the trees begin to bloom than some southern fiction. (I swear that was true even before I moved to Georgia.)

Katie Crouch’s debut novel, Girls in Trucks, was termed “wise, wry and heartbreaking” when it came out last year. This year she’s returned with Men and Dogs, termed dark and funny by the critics. Methinks the pair of novels are just what the doctor ordered on a sunny day with a tall glass of sweet tea.

So! Who wants to win a pair of Katie Crouch novels? I’m giving away five sets of her books, because our friends at Hachette are extremely generous. If this sounds up your alley, first go review the contest rules and regulations, then come on back here and leave a comment on this post by 11:59 p.m. Eastern (that’s 8:59 p.m. Pacific) on Wednesday, March 31st, 2010 to be entered. Winners to be determined by random number generation and about to say “y’all” without sounding stupid.

Ready? Go!

Prepare to be mad or glad

No, I’m not about to offer you green eggs and ham, I’m about to tell you that I know I just posted a Coldwater Creek 50% off deal just a few days ago, and it probably seems weird that I’m posting another one.

… so if you already placed an order, you might be feeling mad.

… but if you procrastinated, prepare to feel extremely glad, because now instead of everything being 50% off, everything is 70% off with coupon code AFLA187 through April 1st, 2010. (Of course, it looks like they purged a lot of stuff from the Outlet prior to the sale. But still.)

If you ordered last week, take solace in the notion that whatever you ordered probably isn’t available anymore. And also that the people in charge of issuing the coupons are probably ugly and their mothers dress them funny.

Winner of the its-laS-tik contest

We had plenty of readers playing for the cool stretchy its-laS-tik tote bag in this weekend’s contest, but there can only be one winner. The random number generator gave a shout out to lucky commenter number 191—June, come on down! You’ve won the confetti tote bag, and should check your email so that I can coordinate shipping it out to you.

Big thanks to all who played, and special thanks to the folks at what’Surbag for the prize donation.

Didn’t win this one? I’ve got another contest coming right up, later today. Eventually everyone will win something, or so random number theory should lead us to believe. Okay, now my brain hurts.

It’s the hamster discount

I… don’t really know what a Zhu Zhu is. Nor do I want to know. It sounds vaguely contagious, and definitely like it’s moist, no matter what my children try to explain to me about how they’re hamsters gerbils mice rodent analogues.

Nevertheless, if I’m going to cave to the Zhu Zhu trend, I’m much more likely to go the video game route than the fuzzy, battery-powered toy route. Which is why it’s extra-cool that the Zhu Zhu Pets: Special Edition DS game is currently just $20 at Amazon with a $10 video game credit, essentially making it just $10.

Hey, remember that Prime trial most of us got a few months ago, that runs out at the end of the month? Now much be a good time to squeeze the last bit of life out of it, picking up Easter basket stuff. Just a suggestion.

Spell out the savings

Oh, so cute—today’s Sale of the Day at The Company Store makes me wish my kids were smaller. Choose alphabet letters to spell out their names (or whatever you’d like), either pink pony-themed ones for the girls or navy blue pirate-themed options for the boys. Some letters are unavailable, but they’ve got a pretty good assortment considering the regular price of $10/letter has been dropped down to just $1.99 each.

Use coupon code CKSAVE for an additional 20% off, too; that’ll help offset the shipping a little bit.

Not at all like Twisted Sister

Am I the only one here old enough to remember when Twisted Sister was cool? Wait, am I the only one here old enough to remember Twisted Sister at all? Don’t answer that.

I was checking out today’s Daily Deals at Hanes and saw the “twisted tissue t-shirt” and all I could think was, “But I don’t want Twisted Sister on a t-shirt!”

More coffee is clearly in order. Ahem.

Aside from the fact that the twisted tissue shirt is really cute, there’s also deep discounts on polos for the guys. Use coupon code 103060 to ship your whole order for $1.99, unless you’re buying $49+ (in which case shipping is free and you can use code DOTOMIDSC for an extra 10% off.

That’s a lot of data storage

My husband informs me that today’s Amazon Gold Box Deal is a real steal—it’s a 1.5TB hard drive for just $85.

If you know someone who regularly has to back up a ton of data—say, suppose you’re married to a photographer, for example—this is apparently very exciting. If you are someone like me who just feels happy that your computer boots up and allows you to log on to Facebook, maybe it’s not for you. So there you have it.

(Random geeky fact: Said husband recently calculated that the cost of archival backups to drives like these is actually cheaper than his old method of burning everything to DVD. Perhaps that’s why he’s so excited.)
