Smoothies, anyone?

If you’ll recall from the post I wrote about power smoothies for the kids, we are a big smoothie family. And you may further recall that I searched high and low for a protein powder additive that tastes great and isn’t laden with chemicals.

Of course, as soon as I found said powder, it proceeded to go up in price. Hmph. But I check on it every few days, and today is a good day—right now the French Vanilla Designer Whey 2.1 lb tub at Amazon is $18.72. I generally hop on over and buy a tub whenever the price dips below $20. This is the best-tasting protein powder I’ve found that doesn’t contain aspartame, sucralose, or corn syrup. (Because hi, yuck, why would you want that stuff in your smoothie?) It’s sweetened with stevia, which means it tastes great without calories or chemicals.

They should hire me to be their spokesperson. I could make everyone green smoothies while singing their praises. Heh.

Anyway, if you’re in the market for all-natural protein powder on the cheap, you might want to get in on the deal before they raise the price again.

Super fantastic, its-laS-tik

Whoops, I guess technically it’s no longer afternoon. Today sort of got away from me. But! I have been out shopping (for seeds, as it’s nearly garden time) and that got me thinking that it’s time to give away a super fantastic reusable shopping bag.

Meet What’Surbag, a company based in New Orleans that makes bags out of something called its-laS-tik (composed of nylon and lycra—durable, reusable, and in the end, recyclable). These bags are a little different than the typical reusable bags you see around most of the time, and the fun part is that they’re super-stretchy to accommodate whatever you need to put in them.

I have a Confetti What’Surbag sitting here that’s going to go out to one lucky Want Not reader. If you don’t want to use it for a reusable grocery bag, my daughter has assured me there are a thousand things she could use it for, please please pleeeeeease, Mom, so I’m guessing any tween/teen girl would find it pretty hip and happening.

Want to win it? First go review the contest rules and regulations, then come on back here and leave a comment on this post by 8:00 a.m. Eastern (that’s 5:00 a.m. Pacific) on Monday, March 29th, 2010 to be entered. Winner to be determined by random number generation and elasticity.

Ready? Go!

Saturday deals

Goooood morning! I hope that wherever you are, the sun is shining and the puppies are playful. (It’s possible I’ve had either too much coffee or too many doggie kisses this morning, it’s true.)

Ready to get your deals on? Let’s see what looks good.

Today’s Amazon Gold Box Deal is half-off the Tidy Cats Breeze Litter System, and I don’t really know what that is because I’m not a cat person, but I gather it’s a way to make it seem less like you let your animals poop in a box in your house. At least, that’s what I’m guessing.

Also, if you like iced tea? I’m not a huge fan of Lipton teas for hot tea, but right now they have three Lipton green tea varieties on Manager’s Special at Amazon that all make really good, fruity iced tea if you like that sort of thing. They’re $9.02 for a 6-pack—already a great price—but coupon code PRETEA33 should take off an additional 30%, making them just $1/box!

This weekend they’re having Customer Appreciation Days at Fashion Bug, with 30% off of everything, automatically. Make it better with a code—code 776323404 will take $25 off your $75+ purchase.

There’s tons of clothing in the weekend deals at 6pm.com, today, but don’t forget about the “Last Chance Clearance” still available, too (there’s a button on the top of the entry page that’ll take you to it). The clearance has clothing and shoes and bathing suits and just about everything else.

Today’s big daily deal at Graveyard Mall is “Value Packed Parenting: Raising Rock Solid Kids in a Pleasure-Driven World” by Dr. Kevin Leman, and the supposed retail value of the pack is $230, but they’re offering it for just $20. Might be worth checking out for that price.

Buy one, get one half off is back at Famous Footwear, plus you can add coupon code BUNNY15 to take an additional 15% off on top of that, too. Now’s the time to stock up on shoes for the upcoming warmer weather! (Or to scoop up the savings on clearance winter stuff for next year.)

I hear some brunch calling my name (oh, wait… that may just be my kids…), so I’ve got to scoot for now. There may be a little contest this afternoon, so check back.

Round-up at the Friday Corral

I went ahead and had an entire cup of coffee before even looking at the sad remains of the Amazon Friday Sale, today, knowing that it was just going to annoy me. And I was right! Though they do have a lot of coffee, so maybe worth checking if you need some. On the other hand, I’m rather tickled by today’s Gold Box Deal: The Marx Brothers Silver Screen Edition (five Marx Brothers movies on DVD) for just $26.49. That would make a pretty cool Father’s Day gift, no? And the video game deal of the day is Academy of Champions: Soccer for the Wii for just $15, plus there’s the usual crop of 100 MP3 albums for just $5 each to check out. And finally, the end of the month (which, yeah, we’re already at) is the best time to check out the Manager’s Special grocery reductions for slashed prices on food. Like, hello, how about 32 packages of Late July cheddar snack crackers (read: organic CheezIts) for just $9.25 shipped on Subscribe & Save. (Insert your own “Amazon, I wish I knew how to quit you” joke here.)

Today 6pm.com is trying to lure me in with amazing deals on BCBG and Nine West. Must… resist….

They’ll probably sell out quickly, and there’s only a few sizes available even as I type this, but over in the Target Daily Deals they’ve got patent ballerina flats for little girls for just $5 each with free shipping. (Use code URTYJLI8 for an extra 10% off!)

Holy wow, but there’s a ton of clearance going on right now at Taste of Home! Use coupon code 347 for free shipping on $10+, or code LST18 for 15% off $25+, 20% off $35+, or 25% off $45+ (and I think shipping is free on $40+, regardless). You can sort by price in the sidebar, there—check out the $19.99 and Under category to find most of the markdowns.

I’m off to do my typical Friday things, like catching up on all the stuff I didn’t get done between Monday and Thursday. Oops. Have a great day, everyone!

The silverware standard

I’ll confess my bias right up front: I grew up in New York, not far from Oneida, and therefore I have been raised to believe that Oneida is the One True Flatware. I mean, I’m sure there are other brands that are fine, too. Except that they’re not Oneida.

Of course, Oneida doesn’t come cheap… most of the time. But right now on the Oneida website you can shop their 18/0 service for 12 flatware sets, some of which are already marked 70% off. (I’m having trouble linking directly. Search on 18/0 or go to the sale section and click on “Hot Buy! Casual Flatware 65pc sets” in the sidebar to find the deep discounts.) Then add coupon code JL10 for an additional $10 off and free shipping, too.

Site is running a bit slow with the sale, but perseverance pays off if you really want some nice silverware at a discount price.

Winner of the Tupperware contest

This week many of you threw your hat into the ring to win a cool mom’s lunch set from Tupperware, and I wish I could be more like Oprah. Instead of saying “here’s your winner,” I could say “Everyone look under your chair! You’re all getting a Mother’s Day Take Along Lunch kit!” Wouldn’t that be awesome?

Alas, I’m no Oprah.

So we have just one winner. And the random number generator says that winner is lucky number 96, Christie C. Congratulations, Christie—please check your email!

Big thanks to all who played, and special extra-big-thanks to lovely Want Not reader and Tupperware consultant extraordinaire, Jennifer Minson, who both donated the prize and will continue to offer shipping savings to Want Not readers who wish to place an order with her. (I’m not sure how long she can offer these savings, but I’m sure she can clarify.)

Didn’t win this time? Buck up, Buttercup! There’s more ways to win coming up, and you never know when it’ll be your lucky day.

That’s, like, twice as much

I like to employ what my husband calls “fake math” when figuring out savings and deals. So, for example, anything I can buy with Paypal is free, because Paypal isn’t real money! (Please note: Paypal is real money. But I like to think about it this way because it amuses me.)

Furthermore, a 50% off deal at a store I really like is actually twice as much I can buy. See how that works? And through April 4th, 2010, you can shop Coldwater Creek and take 50% off absolutely everything (even items in the Outlet) with coupon code AFLA146.

So either save 50% or buy twice as much. That part is up to you, and I certainly won’t tell anyone.

Raise your hand. . .

… if you either had, or desperately wanted to have, a flowered swim cap when you were a little girl.

(Guys, you’re exempt from this one. Obviously.)

Turns out, everything old is new again, and you can still wear plastic flowers on your head while you swim laps. Oh, wait—excuse me, now the flowers are latex. Which isn’t quite as horrific, but it’s still very close.

The things I find, sometimes… it’s scary out there, people.

Super Mario pays

Do you like to make sure you have the latest and greatest video games as soon as possible? I am the mean sort of mother who makes the kids wait until the games are barely cool anymore, but maybe you’re nicer than I am. Right now at Amazon if you pre-order Wii Super Mario Galaxy 2 for $50, you’ll get $20 back to spend on any other video game purchase you want. Credit is deposited into your account after the game ships, which is currently slated for release on May 23rd.

When you get to be a hero and save a bundle, that’s a good shopping day.

Say hello/goodbye to Winter

Spring has sprung, and if you enjoy Winter as much as I do (read: hardly at all), you’re probably eager to get out the shorts and bathing suits and to bid the cold good riddance. But before we do that, we’re going to scoop up all of the cold-weather clearance deals we can, right? Right!

Today all outerwear is in the spotlight over at 6pm.com. Parkas, boots… you name it, it’ll keep you warm. Don’t think about it being cold out, just think about how happy you’ll be to have everything you need next year, at a discount price.

(I find it helps if you do that shopping in a sundress. Just a suggestion.)
