Les Mess, more fun

I spent most of today cleaning, which I probably wouldn’t have had to do if 1) my children weren’t such pigs (I say that with love, you understand) and 2) if I was better about getting them to pitch in on regular tidying around the house. This probably sounds very familiar to other parents out there, right?

What if a card game could get your kids more invested in keeping the house clean? It sounds too good to be true, but Les Mess swears their organizing card game can do just that! Kids ages 5-12 can pull a card to be assigned a task and a time limit. If the task is completed before time is up, they get a prize (that part’s up to the parent, but my children would be after cold, hard cash). Less arguing, less stress, and—ultimately—less mess. Sounds good to me.

Want to win your very own Les Mess card game? I’m giving one away! Just go review the contest rules and regulations, then come on back here and leave a comment on this post by 8:00 a.m. Eastern (that’s 5:00 a.m. Pacific) on Monday, June 28th, 2010 for a chance to win. I’ll choose a winner via random number generation and crispness of your hospital corners. (Now there’s a mental image for you, me skulking around people’s houses… “I’m in ur bedroom, grading ur sheetz!”)

Ready? Go!

Saturday deals

Gooooood morning! Just a quick peek into the deals, today, before I go do fascinating things like mop the kitchen floor. Yes, it’s a thrilling weekend on tap here at Casa Mir….

Macy’s is offering an extra 15% or 20% off absolutely everything (discount depends on the department) today, on top of their One Day Sale prices. (I still think they should rename the One Day Sale to the One Day This Week, No, Maybe Two Days This Week Sale, but they didn’t ask me.)

This weekend at Oneida, reap huge savings—buy one set of four (that’s flatware, dinnerware, or even steak knives) and get one free! Plus you can use code T99 to ship your entire order for $.99.

Feeling sleepy? The Target Daily Deals are all about sleepwear, today, including two adorable Paul Frank jammie sets I’m totally digging. Code MT9ZC7RW should still be working for an additional 10% off.

Today’s one of those days at 6pm.com that I told you about; you’re over there just buying some under-$8 Polliwalks for the kids, and some discounted Asics or Nine West shoes just “fall” into your cart. Huh.

Today’s Amazon Gold Box Deal is 500 GB of storage on a portable Toshiba drive for just $66 shipped, should you be in the market for more back-up.

Did you miss out on the PeliCAN t-shirts from Threadless when I first posted them? They’re back in stock in every size, with proceeds still going to the Gulf Restoration Network.

That should keep you busy for a while, yes? And I think it’s been a while since we had a weekend contest, so let me go play Cinderella here for a while and then I’ll be back with a little somethin’. Check back!

Friday comes in on broken mouse feet (foot?)

My poor computer is ill. We are off to the Genius Bar to get the mouse button and track pad looked at it, because—and this is the technical word for it—it appears to be busted. What a sad way to kick off my weekend, alas!

Before I go, though, here’s a few deals to keep you busy.

There’s a nice crop of discounts at 6pm.com today, including another shot at Laura Ashley dresses for the girls for under $10, Stride Rites for under $25, and Privos for under $20.

If 6pm doesn’t have the shoes you need, Piperlime is having a “tag sale,” with discounts of up to 40% off. Free shipping and free returns, as always.

Have you checked your drugstore.com coupons lately? There’s just a few more days left to take advantage of the free shipping on your $25 order and a free $25 restaurant.com certificate, if you haven’t done that promotion yet.

Running low on vitamins or supplements? The buy 1, get 2 free (or buy 2, get 4 free) sale is in full force over at Puritan’s Pride, so it’s a good time to stock up there.

Yum, a whole slew of Annie’s Homegrown products are on special in the Amazon Grocery section; on top of existing markdowns, use coupon code ANNIE736 for another 10% off, and then buy via Subscribe & Save for free shipping and another 15% off. This is a great opportunity to stock up on snacks for the kids.

Also at Amazon, the Friday Sale has a few new additions today. For example, they have a couple of thinkThin bar variety packs on sale, if you like those. And if you love Nutella (really, who doesn’t love Nutella?), they have a 5-pack of Nutella for $15.50.

One last thing—did my cruise experience make you want to learn more? You can hear more about it from me on this week’s Mail Buoy Podcast, and Patricia has graciously extended a special offer to Want Not readers, too: Contact her by July 9th just to start talking about booking a cruise (you don’t have to book by then, just contact her by then), and she’ll offer special savings to you or your group when you finally do book. (Details on the podcast, and I will try to remember to remind you again before the deadline, too.)

Alright, I’m off to get my poor computer fixed, but will possibly be back later if the Genius folks work fast. You try to stay out of trouble while I’m gone.

Winner of the ThermaCELL contest

Well hey, it turns out that there are plenty of people as aggravated by mosquitoes as I am. (Funny story: I moved to Georgia during a drought. So I was all, “Well sure, it’s hot here, but at least there aren’t any mosquitoes!” The drought ended, it was still ungodly hot, and the mosquitoes came back. Imagine my surprise.) The response to this week’s contest to win a ThermaCELL outdoor lantern to keep the bugs at bay was enthusiastic. Sadly, I have but one lantern to give.

The random number generator says it’s lucky number 10, which means that Laura is out winner. Congratulations, Laura—please check your email!

Big thanks to all who played, and special thanks to the generous folks at ThermaCELL for the product donation. Generous sponsors are pretty!

Didn’t win this time? There’s always more contests coming up, and in the meantime, you can find ThermaCELL at your local home improvement store on on Amazon.

Who can cook in this heat?

I confess: Despite my frugal ways, when summer hits in full force (today is relatively cool by Georgia standards, by which I mean the heat index is only—I hope you’re sitting down—96 degrees), my desire to cook drops off significantly. (My desire to sit on a pool noodle in the water and sip a cool, fruity drink goes way up, but that’s another story.)

So, sure, we’re eating out a little bit more. But I’m not worried, because Restaurant.com keeps churning out promotions like clockwork, including the fact that through June 30th, you can get yourself 80% off your purchase with coupon code SUMMER. That means $25 worth of dining for just $2 out-of-pocket, and that means you have plenty left over for a couple of drinks that come with little umbrellas.

Because everyone knows the umbrellas make it way more refreshing.

Zhu Zhu for you

Hey, remember over the holidays when everyone wanted Zhu Zhu Pets stuff and everywhere was sold out?

I still don’t understand what the lure is about having animatronic hamsters. Er, gerbils. Er, rodents of some sort, but whatever. I’m not a little kid.

If your kid is still riding the Zhu Zhu craze, check out today’s Target Daily Deals—it’s four deep deals on Zhu Zhu stuff. (Don’t forget coupon code MT9ZC7RW for an extra 10% off!)

Of course, if you paid full price last year, you might not want to look. I wouldn’t want you crying on the robot rodents.

Worry’s for another daaa-aa-aay

Let the music play!
Down at Fraggle Rock!

Ah, memories. Fortunately, today’s Amazon Gold Box deal lets me relive my childhood devotion to all things muppet, because today they have the entire series of Fraggle Rock on DVD for just $37. That’s 20 discs, 96 episodes, 2380 minutes, and more trips in the Wayback Machine than it might even be safe for one person to take.

Still, at that price? I’m willing to take the risk.

I don’t think that’s how you spell it

Minus ten points for Old Navy‘s insistence on labeling their current promotion with the phrase “Wholey Moley,” because their spelling makes my head hurt.

But plus twenty points for the actual promo itself—save 30% on absolutely everything, with code ONBIG30, through June 29th. For a discount like that, I can forgive even “creative” spelling.

Reminder: ThermaCELL contest

Don’t forget—you have until early tomorrow morning to enter to win a ThermaCELL mosquito repellent outdoor lantern, but you can’t win if you don’t enter. Make sure your comment is in so you can have your shot at it.

As always, please leave comments on the contest post to enter. Comments left on this post will be taunted by people who entered the contest correctly.

I’m just here to help, people.

E-readers drop in price, hooray!

Even if you’re not an Apple enthusiast, you have to be a little pleased about the iPad for a couple of reasons. First, it’s given us the best crop of immature feminine protection product jokes since junior high; and second, it put just enough of a squeeze on the e-reader market that prices are starting to drop.

That’s right: The Barnes & Noble nook is down to just $149, and the Amazon Kindle has just dropped to $189. (Sony remains in the middle, with their Pocket Edition Reader remaining at $169.)

Now, I know someone out there is going, “What?? I just bought a Kindle! And I paid more!” Rumor has it that Amazon is doing price adjustments on Kindles purchased in the last month; so if you bought within 30 days, please do contact customer service for a refund. (I’m not sure about the nook, though it would certainly be worth a try if you bought one just prior to the price drop.)

I have to say that—as stingy as I am—I broke down and bought a bunch of digital books to load onto my Sony Reader before the cruise, and I became totally addicted to the convenience of it while we were away. It’s not going to replace the feel/smell/experience of a real book, but when you’re trying to pack light, it’s very nice to have around.
