I’ve succumbed

A few months ago I finally succumbed to the Silly Bands (Silly Bandz? Silly Banzzzz?) craze, much to my children’s delight. I think I posted when there was a great deal on one of those one-sale-a-day sites, and for not much money I picked up a whole mess of bands for my kids.

Awesome. Except it wasn’t, because those bands break really easily. My son gave up wearing his altogether, and my daughter carefully wears just one at a time and then it usually breaks and she gets upset. Lesson learned: Do not buy the cheap bands.

So today I was just surfing around Amazon for Buddy Bands, because it turns out that those are really hard to break. They cost more, but they also last. Plus, they come in cool shapes. So I was all set to get some dragon bands for my son and flower bands for my daughter, but then I found this 100-band mega-pack and new my stocking stuffer search was over.

Yeah, I paid $17 for rubber bands. I’m kind of ashamed. (But some of them are really cool. No, really!)

All part of their evil plan

On the one hand, I sort of resent “spend more, save more” deals, because I know the goal is to make me spend more than I would, otherwise. And because it generally works. (What can I say? Always a sucker for the bigger discount!)

On the other hand, I love “spend more, save more” deals because if I’m spending, anyway, I may as well reap the savings.

And that’s exactly what they’re counting on, I guess. I’m just their puppet, and soon online shopping coupons will take over the world. Or maybe I’m overthinking this.

Regardless, for the next four days, shop at Children’s Place and you’ll—you guessed it—save more, the more you spend.

Coupon code K3C2010 saves you 20% on $40, code H3C2010 saves you 25% on $50, and code F3C2010 saves you 30% on $60. Just in case you were shopping, anyway. Or can’t resist the codes.

[Unrelated: AT&T is here breaking working on my Internet connection, so I want you to know I really, really love you, because this took me over an hour to post with their helpful "assistance." Ahem.]

Be a Groupie

I’ve decided that those of us who harbor a deep love of Groupon should embrace our status as Groupies. Yes.

I still love the local deals, but as they bring in more and more national deals, my infatuation with them only grows deeper. I can only hope that my husband continues to be understanding of this little love affair.

Where should you go today? Well, let’s see….

Head to the Tulsa Groupon (look in the sidebar) for $15 worth of fortune cookie soaps for just $5. Hello, teacher gifts! Love these.

Cross the border to the Ottawa Groupon to snag $70 worth of beautiful, contemporary jewelry for just $35.

Or go to the Pittsburgh Groupon to get 4 movie tickets for just $20 (redeemable through Weekly Cinema—which usually requires a subscription, but doesn’t for this Groupon—and ultimately you purchase via MovieTickets.com or Fandango).

Or, if you keep missing it, head to Los Angeles (look in the sidebar) for the (now ubiquitous) $10 for $20 at Soap.com Groupon.

People, it’s a beautiful day to be a Groupie.

Christmas came early this year

It only happens every now and then—in fact, I can only remember it happening twice before, in all the years I’ve been using them—but today is the very best day for you to try out Restaurant.com (or return to them, again).

Why? Well, how does 90% off sound to you…? Today (September 30th, 2010) only, purchase dining certificates for 90% off with coupon code WOW. That’s $25 worth of dining for just one dollar, and the excuse you’ve been wanting to schedule a date night. Or an I-don’t-have-to-cook night. Or even a yay-it’s-Wednesday night. It doesn’t matter. When you’re saving $24 on food someone else cooked for you, you can afford to be a randomly celebratory.

(Psssst! They also offer gift certificates towards Mrs. Fields online, Boca Java, and Lobstergram. Just sayin’.)

Don’t delay, because today is the only day this code will work, and then we’ll be back to the standard 60% – 80% off. You don’t want to be the chump who missed 90% off, do you?

Reminder: There’s still time to win books!

You didn’t forget to enter this week’s contest, did you? It’s a chance to win a trio of beautiful hardback picture books from Simon and Schuster, and yet another excuse to read to the anklebiters in your life. But if you don’t enter, you can’t win. Funny how that works.

As always, please leave a comment on the contest post for an entry. Leaving a comment on this post doesn’t get you anything. Except possibly a bit of snickering, because no matter what I say, someone always comes along and responds to one of these reminders with “Pick meeeeee!” and I’m sorry, that’s funny.

You have until early tomorrow morning to get that entry in. Just sayin’.

You know I loved clearanced clearance

If there’s anything I like better than a clearance sale, it’s a sale where the clearance is on clearance. Ahhhhh. Like today and tomorrow at EMS in the Outlet. There’s an additional 20% coming off stuff that’s already marked as low as it’s supposed to go. Just put those goodies in your cart and voila, pay 20% less. It’s a thing of beauty.

Not convinced the prices are low? I spy with my little eye… Sigg bottles for under $5 after the discount. Crazy.

Automatic free shipping on your $125+ order. If you think you could even manage to spend that much. (Maybe you can; there’s a fair amount of last year’s winter gear to be had, too.)

If you prefer cereal for breakfast…

… don’t forget that the current Amazon deal on Post cereals is going to expire tomorrow.

Choose from an assortment of already-marked-down varieties, then save an additional 15% with coupon code POSTSEPT, and save another 15% (and get free shipping) when you buy via Subscribe & Save. Sure, a few varieties are already sold out, but there are still plenty of cheap eats available.

Start waffling

Weren’t we talking about waffle makers the other day? Ah, I found it—we were. And I seem to recall a few comments about how a waffle maker can be inexpensive and still work well.

In general, I’d say this is one of those appliances where you get what you pay for. But when the price is right, from a reputable brand, I am willing to bend that rule just a little. So: I thought I’d let you know that today Buy.com has a refurbished Cuisinart Classic Round Waffle Maker available for just $18 shipped. (For reference: It runs about $28 at Amazon, where it has mixed but largely favorable reviews.)

If you’re willing to take a risk to save some money, this might be a good way to go.

Maybe I’m looking just a little

I’ve gone several days without even peeking over at 6pm.com, but today they’re touting new arrivals at 50% off. I think this officially makes them the TJ Maxx of the online world, and I’m a goner because I’m sucker for discounts like this. The DKNYC shoes at 70% off and Converse at 60% off are just icing on the cake.

(The cake of pretty, pretty shoes.)

And a few costume possibilities

So I happened to come across this ultra-cheap Teen Titans costume at Amazon, which prompted me to look at the vendor offering it, which led to the discovery that they have a ton of cheap costumes if you’re willing to page through and find them. Lots and lots of options for under $15, and yes, there’s shipping, but it’s pretty cheap, too.

Also, I personally believe you cannot place a price on not having to go to a Big Box Store with an indecisive child who has trouble choosing from amongst the overpicked, overpriced offerings. I much prefer the magic of a box arriving and “Oh, look! You should totally wear this for Halloween!” Amen.
