Possibly the mack daddy of GPS units

Been holding out for the GPS unit that’s all that, a bag of chips, and an ice cream cone? (Wait. You know that’s a metaphor, right? It would be complicated—not to mention messy—if your GPS was made of ice cream.) Today’s Amazon Gold Box may hold the key to all of your GPS dreams: It’s a widescreen Magellan Roadmate with lifetime maps and traffic.

The lifetime maps mean you’ll never pay for an upgrade, and it’ll always stay current, no matter how much construction goes on. The traffic alerts mean added information in metro areas. And of course it’s got all of the features you want in a GPS—spoken street names, multi-destination routing, etc.—and the giant 5-inch touch screen means it’s perfect even in a larger vehicle like a truck. (Or it’s perfect for your favorite elderly driver who is a little worried that “that contraption” is going to be too complicated.)

The Gold Box price means that today you get it all for $150 shipped, even though ordinarily, the version without the maps is $200. Nice.

For my gluten-free friends

Need to stop up on gluten-free flour? I’m a big fan of Pamela’s Baking Mix, but sometimes I just need plain flour for a recipe. So I’m doing a little happy dance that right now I can snag some Bob’s Red Mill Rice Flour on the cheap at Amazon—the Organic Brown Rice Flour is just $9.37 shipped (when you buy via Subscribe & Save) for 4 24-oz packages, and the Organic White Rice Flour is $9.71 shipped for the same amount.

If you can eat wheat, I’m happy for you. If you can’t, these are great prices on quality flours. The white rice flour in particular doesn’t have that oh-this-is-gritty-it-must-be-gluten-free thing going on. I’m off to buy some right now.

Saturday deals

Good morning! Are you having an awesome weekend? We have family visiting and it’s been so much fun ’round here the last couple of days, I am probably going to have to endure repeated cries of “It’s boring! No one is playing with me!” after they leave. I think the kids might be upset, too.

Anyway! How about a few deals for the weekend?

Okay, listen. Please don’t laugh. But yesterday I watched the Dr. Oz show (with my mother-in-law! I had never seen it before!) and he did a really interesting segment on the supplements every woman should be taking, and because I’m me, I became irrationally convinced that my bones are going to crumble into dust if I don’t start taking calcium. Heh. Anyway, worth a look, and it reminded me that the current buy-1-get-2-free promotion at Puritan’s Pride is over at the end of the month. Just sayin’. (Also just sayin’: I picked up a 9-month supply of everything he suggested for under $50. Not bad.)

Today’s Amazon Gold Box Deal featured a Scotch Laminator for about $18. Would that be the coolest teacher gift ever or what? [Edited to add: If you also buy this pack of laminating pouches to go with it (be sure to choose Amazon as the seller), you can then redeem this $20 rebate!]

There’s new clothing markdowns at 6pm.com this weekend, though I’m trying not to look. Trying. Trying. Darn it.

I’m kind of digging this LL Bean Adventure Gift Set; it’s a water bottle, flashlight, and multitool for just $15. Automatic free shipping, too.

There’s still time to grab the Pittsburgh Groupon for $100 worth of Picaboo photo books for just $25! (I love these online deals that Groupon has been doing.)

They’re having a Sweater Event over at Old Navy, with free shipping on $75+ and 20% off any order with coupon code ONSAVE20. I could totally go for some new sweaters if the temperature here would ever drop below 90. Ahem.

Oneida redid their website, and to celebrate they’re offering 20% off your order this weekend—just use coupon code NEW20.

I’m off to continue playing hostess. Hopefully that will not involve any more daytime television that makes me worry about my bone health, but I guess we’ll see….

Friday, all day

Good morning! I think today is going to be one of those unplug-and-go-see-the-world kinds of days. I need one. And I hear there’s an entire world outside of the Internet. I’ll have to report back and let you know if it’s true.

Before I go, though, I have a few goodies for you….

There’s a few different options for Sonia Kashuk makeup brushes in the Target Daily Deals, and between the discount and the free shipping (not to mention, not having to walk into the store, where you’re sure to find “just a few more things”), it’s a great way to grab ‘em.

A bevy of boots at $50 or less at 6pm.com today? Yes, please!

Today and tomorrow at Kohls, coupon code FORUONLY takes 20% off your total, and code SHIPFREE ships your order for free. (Oh how I have missed those free shipping codes….)

Ready to get your Groupon on? Check your local deal, or go for one of the national ones—today you can hop over to San Diego to get $25 worth of Xoopii reusable bags for $10, or head to Queens for $30 of GelaSkins for just $15. (Why, yes, Groupon is my new BFF. Why do you ask?)

Over in the Amazon Friday Sale, we see an abundance of… coffee. Try to contain your shock. They also have a decent deal on Mrs. May’s Tropical Fruit Trio Bars (my favorite kind)—just $16.15 shipped for a case of 24 when you buy via Subscribe & Save. (Not the very cheapest I’ve seen, but close. And these are yummy, high-protein, gluten-free bars.) We are also big fans of these Oskri cranberries, which put shriveled-up Craisins to shame.

Today’s Gold Box Deal is the Ultimate Collector’s Edition of The Wizard of Oz on Blu-ray, just in case you need everything there is to know about Dorothy and her friends.

That should keep you busy for a little while, right?

Winner of the Coghlan’s contest

I love that y’all could see the secret agent possibilities inherent in these Coghlan’s 7-in-1 binoculars. It kind of just makes me want to hunker down behind my desk with a pair. (Hey, I solve extensive mysteries every day. I could totally use these.)

Anyway, I have two pairs about to go to new homes. May the children who receive them be very sneaky and, um, inquisitive. Yes. The random number generator has spoken, and it selected our winners. They are: Commenter 154, Robin e, and commenter 25, Ashley. Congratulations, ladies—please check your email!

As always, thanks to everyone who played, and special thanks to Coghlan’s and their helpers at BLASTmedia for furnishing the prizes.

Didn’t win this time? Don’t be blue! I can tell the holidays are coming, because I have some fantastic giveaways rolling in… you’re going to have the chance to win some very cool prizes in the coming weeks and months, trust me.

Even more diaperiffic

I think that pretty soon I’m going to have to turn my office into one of those war-room-looking things with multiple computer monitors and white boards, and one entire wall is going to be dedicated to keeping track of all the various “daily deal” sites, which now seem to be cropping up faster than I can check all of them.

For those with little ones still in diapers, be sure to check out Plum District today; the deal is $20 for $40 worth of diapers at Diapers.com.

This will probably come in very handy once you bring home all of those babies you bought at Old Navy, earlier. What?

C is for cookie

Okay. Generally I shy away from highly processed foods. Usually I eschew individually-packaged items, preferring instead to save money and packaging to just break things up for lunchboxes on my own.

That said: The thing I have missed the most, since giving up wheat? Oreos. There is nothing that compared to an Oreo, man. Nothing.

So if I was a super-nice mom, I might go ahead and pick up this 48-pack of single-serving Oreo packs from Amazon, because right now it’s just $12.89 shipped when you buy via Subscribe & Save. that’s 48 happy school lunches for just under $.27 apiece.

Lots of packaging? Yes. Probably not very healthy? Yes. But Oreos? Oh, yes, pleeeeeeease.

You know I love it when babies are on sale

Oh, I know, they’re supposedly not selling actual babies, but I always get a little excited when there’s a big Baby Sale at Old Navy, anyway.

Here’s how the savings stack up for today:
1) Up to 40% off baby items (adorable pieces starting at just $5).
2) 40% off maternity items (everything under $20)!
3) Today (September 23rd, 2010) only, spend $50+ on baby/maternity and you can use coupon code ONSALE to ship it all for free.

Hopefully you already have a baby in mind for those wee adorable clothes, because it turns out to be surprisingly difficult to purchase infants. I mean, I assume. Shutting up, now.

Designer denim, Amazon prices

As Amazon looks for more and more ways to keep you shopping with them, even those of us with more expensive taste are reaping the benefits.

Take the current Denim Shop Sale, for example. Sure, you can get Dickies and Levis, if that’s what you want, but you can also get Lucky’s, Joe’s, True Religion, 7 For All Mankind… all kinds of top brands. And not only will you get the convenience of shopping through Amazon and everything that includes (like free returns on clothing), spend $100+ and you can use coupon code 20OFFJNS for an additional $20 off.

Even better: If you have Prime and you spend $75+, you get a $10 credit towards a future purchase, too.

And just like that, your designer jeans are being delivered to your door at a decidedly un-designer price. Sweet.

Save the shipping

The older I get, the more I love Eddie Bauer, which either means that my taste is improving in my old age, or that they’ve become unhip without my noticing. Although these are equally likely possibilities, let’s assume the former. Yes.

Anyway, today (September 23rd, 2010) only, you can use coupon code FREEFALL to ship your order from there for free, which is excellent because paying shipping is for suckers. Also, their clearance section is looking newly restocked, so while you could certainly scoop up the newest styles for Fall, you’d be even smarter to scope out the end-of-season and last-season deals.

Just leave some Blakely pants for me. I can always use more pants.
