Red Envelope means luxury

So, the nice folks at Red Envelope came to me and asked if I’d like to do a little product review/giveaway with them, and I said heck yes because I already own several items from there and love all of them. Everything I’ve ever gotten from Red Envelope feels like it just adds a little bit of class to my home. But far be it from me to turn down the chance to get something super cool for free review an item for the benefit of my readers. Ahem.

I figured that with Father’s Day around the corner, I’d check out some of their Father’s Day gifts online; their photo frame valet seemed like the perfect “Dad” gift. I’m happy to report that—as with other merchandise from Red Envelope—the quality is excellent. The valet is substantial, it has a nice weight to it and the hinges for the lid don’t feel like they’ll break off or bend. The leather feels rich and the finish on the wood is gorgeous. And I love that we can slip a photo into the frame and it becomes something much more personal than the typical sort of divided box you find at a department store. This would make a perfect Father’s Day gift for the special dad in your life.

But here’s the thing—maybe you’d rather have something else. I understand. So how about this week our contest winner will get a $50 gift certificate towards anything at Red Envelope? That way you can get what you like best.

To enter this week’s contest, first please review the contest rules and regulations, and then please visit and “like” Red Envelope’s Facebook page, then come on back here and leave a comment by 8:00 a.m. Eastern (that’s 5:00 a.m. Pacific) on Friday, June 3rd, 2011 for a chance to win. Winner to be selected via random number generation and fanciness of monogram. Except the monogram thing seems complicated, so I guess just random number.

Ready? Go!

Heads up, Android users

You know that Amazon recently launched their very own Android Appstore, right? Well, they’re doing one free app every day, and today’s Appstore freebie is the critically acclaimed “Plants vs. Zombies,” which is normally $2.99.

I never, ever thought I’d say this, but: Right at this moment, I’m a little bit bummed to have an iPhone. But quote me on that and I’ll swear you’re lying.

Winner of the Downtown Bookworks contest

I know that today is Tuesday, but thanks to the holiday we are all tacitly agreeing to pretend that today is Monday. Which means I am not behind at all in announcing the winner of last week’s contest. Ahem.

Last week you had the chance to win three great activity books from Downtown Bookworks, and plenty of you envisioned happy summer days filled with something other than, “Mom, I’m bored!” Sadly, we can only have one winner. And the random number generator says that winner is… commenter 113, Colleen. Congratulations, Colleen—please check your email! I’ll be sending you these awesome books to keep your kid(s) busy!

As always, big thanks to all who played, and special thanks to the generous folks at Downtown Bookworks for the prizes.

Didn’t win this one? Don’t be sad! There’s another chance to win coming right up, and this one is just in time for Father’s Day (or not; your choice). Don’t go away!

Rock-bottom Wii, today only

In the market for a Wii at the most affordable price? Check out today’s Deal of the Day at Sears—it’s a Wii Console for just under $140. Now, that means you get one wiimote and Wii Sports only (this isn’t a bundle with Sports Resort or extra controllers), but still, pretty sweet.

Also note that Sears will ship this for free, and your purchase will get you a $20 electronics/gaming coupon good towards a future purchase, too. That’s like getting it for $120, or consider your $140 to be getting you the console as well as a bonus game.

The deal is good today only, so don’t hesitate if you want in. And I am only crying a little, thinking of how we spent over $100 more than this on ours. Heh.

Who’s a wittle bitty adorable camcorder??

How cute is this little Kodak Mini Camcorder? So cute! And so red! I just want to love it and hug it and call it George, and that’s before I see that it’s at a new price low of just $40 shipped!

Now, let’s be clear; this model doesn’t have anywhere near all of the features of the Kodak PlaySport (nor is it waterproof, like the PlaySport), so I wouldn’t consider this an acceptable substitute if you’re looking for a primary camcorder. But maybe for a tween or teen who wants a camcorder…? Or as a starter or backup model to have on hand…? I don’t know. I just know that price is the lowest I’ve seen it.

And also that it’s adorable.

Back to civilization

I knew I was back among modern society (we went camping this weekend) when I automatically popped up 6pm.com this morning. Ahhhhhhh. (Sure, I take coffee with us when we camp. But shopping for shoes fireside is a bit much, even for me.)

Today’s deals include Nike, Patagonia, Crocs, and more. And where have I been? There’s about a dozen adorable new styles of Crocs for the kids I’ve never seen before. Cute stuff.

It’s good to be back!

Crazy socks and more, shipped free

They’re having a big end-of-season sale right now over at LittleMissMatched, and today only you can use coupon code MEMDAYFS to ship any order for free, too.

My kiddo is a fool for their socks, but I like a lot of their other offerings, too—check the sale accessories to stock up your gift closet, if there are tween or teen girls in your life. Cute stuff.

Memorial Day electronics savings

It wouldn’t be Memorial Day without a big blowout sale from Best Buy, but you don’t have to fight the masses at the store if you want in on the bargains. Shop online and you’ll have more time to tend to your charred foodstuffs. And, uh, your family. Which I’m sure is more important than your charred foodstuffs. Yes.

Today’s specials there are too numerous to count, but they’ve got markdowns on everything from televisions to computers and everything inbetween. There’s a slew of popular 2 for $30 video games, too.

Just pointing ‘em out. If I can save you even one trip to the strip mall, I consider my work here done.

Half off, plus bonus savings at Aeropostale

Today’s the day to shop Aeropostale if you’ve hoping to hit the intersection of Sales and Coupons, because their Summer Fun sale means that just about everything is half off, right now. Plus, if you shop today, coupon code MEM20 will take an additional $20 off your $100+ order!

The coupon works at both the main Aero site and at P.S. (their kids’ site), although the half-off sale is only happening on the main site. There’s some good clearance going on for the kids, though. (And don’t forget—both sites carry school uniform stuff! They’re one of the few places I can get acceptable polos for my picky teen.)

The coupon expires early tomorrow morning, so get it while the getting’s good.
