Contest winner, contest reminder

Oh, hey, we had a contest last week and I never picked a winner. Because I’m a jerk. Or maybe because I’m disorganized. Let’s go with the latter!

So last week you had a chance to win a VeggieTales DVD for the kids and some indulgence for you, and then you probably figured I just decided to keep all of that chocolate and bubble bath for myself. But no! I didn’t! Today the random number generator says our winner is commenter 126, Heather. Congratulations, Heather—please check your email! You’ll soon be enjoying this bundle of goodies, and you don’t even have to share with anyone. I won’t tell.

As always, thanks to everyone who played, and special thanks to Horizon Organic for the back-to-school indulgence pack and to Big Idea for the DVD.

Didn’t win this one? Wait! Did you enter this week’s contest for a pair of GuavaKids Baby Mitts? You still have some time left to enter, if you haven’t already. And then next week I have something really, really cool coming up, too. It’s totally prizeriffic, ’round here.

And that is too a word.

Because you needed another daily deal site

Hey, have you found SaveMore yet? It’s another daily deal site, because lord knows there are not nearly enough of those around. Ahem.

Anyway, if you go ahead and sign up, you’ll get a $10 credit, automatically. That would make today’s featured online deal—fancy nail polish—absolutely free, with money left over. Or check out the other deals and see if something else tickles your fancy.

Really, if someone wants to give you $10 to spend, why wouldn’t you take it? Exactly.

Insert your own labor joke here

The Labor Day sales are on their way, people, and if your bra is working hard (I told you to insert your own joke!), maybe it’s time to check out the Maidenform sale celebrating the weekend and good lingerie. Just a friendly suggestion.

Through September 5th, everything is an extra 20% off, even sale items; plus, every order ships for free, regardless of size. No coupon necessary, either. Just shop and enjoy.

And really, I shouldn’t have to tell you this, but if there’s exposed elastic on any of your undergarments, it’s time to go shopping. Really. You can thank me later.

A cure for the humpday blues

In general I dislike referring to Wednesday as “humpday,” (mostly because I am a 10-year-old boy on the inside…), but today it feels apt. My kids have been back to school for just a few weeks, and so of course, everyone has a cold now. This week needs to end. And today I’m going to celebrate being halfway there. Hooray!

What cheers me up when my son wants to describe what’s coming out of his nose in excruciating detail? Shoes, of course. Today’s deals at 6pm.com include price cuts on New Balance, Crocs, Dansko, Naot, and more. Plus there’s an assortment of cheap BCBG purses I’m kind of loving.

It may not cure the cold germs, but it will certainly make today more bearable.

Point-and-shoot for less

If you’ve been looking for a decent point-and-shoot camera, you might want to take a look at today’s Big Steal at Meijer—they’ve got the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS6 for just $143 shipped. Sure, it’s refurbished, but it’s also over $100 cheaper than you can get it new.

Try adding coupon code BTCBB for an extra $5 off, too. Then it’s just $138!

The reviews at Amazon are overwhelmingly favorable on this one. It’s not the latest Lumix model, but it’s a great buy if you don’t mind having the very latest and greatest.

Oh my, pretty purses

Okay, this isn’t a sale for most of us (unless you, like me, enjoy browsing and drooling while feeling a wee bit woozy about the purses), but check it out: It’s time for the Kate Spade sample sale. So many pretty purses!

The prices are great, just so long as you remember they’re Kate Spade prices. If you’re used to buying handbags at Target, you’re probably not going to be impressed.

Man. I really don’t need a new purse. But they’re so pretty….

Tunes for your tot, for free

I love getting free music from Amazon. (Technically, I guess I love getting free anything from anywhere. But anyway….)

I especially love getting free music for the kids, and although mine are a bit too old for these, now, you go ahead and grab ‘em for your little ones and enjoy a few minutes of peace and quiet the next time they need something to distract them. Or just get ready to sing along, I guess.

Right now you can get the Five Song Sesame Street Sampler and/or the Five Super Silly VeggieTales Songs as free downloads. Get both, and that’s a whole album of entertainment for your kid that might not even make you want to stick something sharp into your eardrum.

Just a friendly Cheez-It reminder

I know I posted about this earlier in the month, but I’m going to do it again, both because some prices have changed and because it’s ending in a few days: Don’t forget to check Amazon’s current special on Kellogg’s products, wherein you get a total of 25% off between coupon code KELBTSII and buying via Subscribe & Save.

I took advantage of this deal at the beginning of August, and I’m ashamed to say I’m back again to buy more Cheez-Its. I don’t know what it is about Cheez-Its—maybe it’s because I buy very little in the way of processed snack food?—but my kids act like the white cheddar ones are crack. Yes, I bought four boxes a month ago. Yes, they’re all gone. Yes, I’m deeply ashamed. (Though, in my defense, we did have quite a few social gatherings in that time, filled with other Cheez-Its-loving kids.) And yes, I’m buying more today.

At around just $2/box after discounts, I’m reminding myself that it makes the kids happy. And also that maybe this time I need to ration out portions.

Protection and pizzazz for little hands

I know I owe you a winner from last week’s contest, and I promise to get to that later, but I wanted to get this contest up before I have to run out for a while. (These darn kids, man. So demanding! Drive me to the orthodontist, Mom. Feed me, Mom. Sheesh.)

Anyway! Check out what I got in the mail last week. No, not a baby (I think my husband might take issue with that sort of thing…). Check out the baby’s hands. He’s wearing GuavaMitts, from GuavaKids, which is so new that they’re only just getting set up online. (Until their site opens, you can check them out on Facebook and Twitter, if you’re so inclined.)

So you’re thinking… baby mitts. Big deal. But actually, these are a big deal. First, they’re made of bamboo and organic cotton. Nice! Second, they have velcro closures on the wrists, so that may make them the first baby mitts that baby can’t flail off his little hands. And finally, they’re reversible, with an eye-catching color print on one side and brain-stimulating black-and-white pattern on the other. The pair I have to give away has sort of a mod green print on one side, and black/white circles on the other.

Want to win ‘em? Of course you do! First go review the contest rules and regulations, then come on back here and leave a comment on this post by 8:00 a.m. Eastern (that’s 5:00 a.m. Pacific) on Thursday, September 1st, 2011 for a chance to win. Winner to be determined by random number generation and how many scratches your poor baby has on his face already. But mostly the random number thing.

Rock Band for the brickheads

Last Christmas, I finally ponied up and bought the Taylor Swift Band Hero bundle for our Wii, so that we’d have all the instruments. And then I gave the kids Lego Rock Band.

You may be surprised to learn that even my teenager would rather play the Lego game than sing the Taylor Swift songs. You may even be surprised to learn that we adults really like playing it, too. I like it way better than the regular Band Hero game, in fact.

Why am I telling you this? Lego Rock Band is currently just $11.15 at Amazon (for the Wii version; it’s even cheaper for Xbox). You do need instruments to be able to play it, but if you have Rock Band or Band Hero and want something “for the kids” (I won’t tell if you play it after they’re in bed), this is the game to get. Tons of fun.
