The Want Not Review: Skillet Bacon Jam

You knew it had to happen eventually, right? Me and bacon; bacon and me. We’re pals. Good friends. Total BFFs, in fact. So when I hear about Skillet Bacon Jam sometime last year, I knew I had to try it out, eventually.

The opportunity finally presented itself when I received a sample in the mail last week. Not that I wouldn’t have paid for the privilege, myself, but I figured bacon jam could be a dangerous item for me to have on hand, much as I try to avoid buying gluten-free cookies because then, duh, I will eat them. But my tiny sample container was perfect.

What is bacon jam? Well, it’s mostly bacon, of course. It’s been cooked down with onions and spices and possibly fairy dust. The resulting concoction is visually unappealing (think brown and sludgy), but the taste more than makes up for its lackluster appearance. It’s a sweet bacony explosion of flavor. Apparently it was formulated to top burgers at the Skillet Diner—and I’m sure that would be incredible—but right now my very favorite thing is to eat it on turkey breast. A little dab of bacon jam and I don’t miss mayo or cheese one bit, so I figure it evens out, calorie-wise.

It’s also incredible on eggs, if you don’t have any bacon handy (or, again, want to skip the full caloric onslaught of having a slab of bacon). Okay, fine; I haven’t tried it on anything yet that didn’t taste good. I would probably like it on cupcakes.

If you love bacon, I think you’ll love bacon jam. Yum.

I received the product mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

  1. Mmmm….bacon.

  2. Yummm! I’m thinking BLT, hold the mayo 😉

  3. Bacon jam is amazing!! I’ve not had that particular brand, as I had it at a restaurant. But NOM! I also have a friend who makes it himself, but according to his wife it makes their house smell like a hog farm, so I’d just suggest buying it!

  4. Oh, dear. They only sell it on the Vineyard in MA. Sounds like a good enough reason to go to me!

  5. Au contraire, Mary Fran! Not that I want to stand between you and the Martha, but you can get it at Amazon if you must. 😉

  6. I am using my Amazon Andriod App to buy it with 1-click as I type. I heart bacon.

Would it be weird to buy it as gifts for people? Bacon in my stocking at Christmas would make ME happy. Hmm….
