How much do I love Uncommon Goods? I love them so much, that I loved them lots even before they offered to send me an assortment of their unique wine gifts for review and giveaway. But when they said, “Hey, how about you try these out, and then we’ll give a set away to your readers, too?” (hint, hint—keep reading!) I was definitely in.
For starters, there’s this Wine For Two wine glass holder made from a retired oak wine barrel stave. I’d call this item a bit more of a conversation piece than a truly functional item, but it’s sturdy and looks really striking, plus I love that it’s made from reclaimed wood. In spite of what the picture shows, this is best utilized before the wine is opened—hang the glasses upside-down in the holder, and you’ll have something to talk about before you pop the cork.
Next up is their Fondue For Two set, and I confess I had a good laugh, while pulling it out, that it comes with a tiny tea light to keep it warm. That’s ridiculous, I thought. But! It turns out that one tiny tea light is actually enough to keep hot fondue hot—at the end of our little impromptu fondue testing, the cheese was still plenty hot, and upon cleaning the carafe I discovered a little “knot” of burned cheese just above the wick. It works! I would suggest—as a dumb American—maybe using a different fondue recipe than the one included, as it required us to try to figure out how many grams of cheese and how many deciliters of wine we needed. Heh.
And finally, my favorite item in the lot—their Recycled Wine Bottle Platter. It looks like someone ran over a win bottle with a steamroller, because that’s essentially what it is—a glass platter made by flattening a wine bottle. I love that it’s recycled, I love that each one is completely unique, and I love that you could serve cheese on it to go with your wine, or you could just keep it on the stove as a spoon rest. This is a versatile piece and really, really pretty. It has an embedded metal loop at the top, and I’m considering hanging mine on the wall—I don’t want to put it away!

Uncommon Goods has such great, unique items. I love getting gifts from them. The wine items look like fun!
Fun stuff. The kids love it when we fondue (sans the wine). They especially like the tradition of kissing the person to your left when the food falls off the fondue fork and into the cheese sauce.
