Bundle up baby, safely

Hey, it’s October (I’m still trying to figure out what happened to September…), and that means it’s SIDS Awareness Month. This isn’t exactly a happy fun topic, but it’s an important one. I remember when my kids were babies, and it seemed like there were all these rules for things to do to reduce SIDS risk, but I was often left wondering if any of it really mattered.

Of course, new parents today have all kinds of great products at their disposal that didn’t exist back when I had babies. Like the gunapod, a soft, wearable, convertible blanket. I remember having a “sleep sack” for my son and he hated it—it wasn’t very soft, and I think it just made him too hot. But the gunapod is the ultimate wearable blanket; soft, cozy, can be zipped up like a sack or left open below for ventilation and foot freedom. Best of all, it’s a snuggly way to keep baby warm without risking a blanket winding up on baby’s face.

One lucky Want Not reader is going to win a gunapod! Interested? First, go check ‘em out: Visit their website to learn more, and check out their color and size options, and you can also follow them on Facebook and Twitter. Then, review my contest rules and regulations. And finally—after you do all of that—come on back here and leave a comment on this post by 8:00 a.m. Eastern (that’s 5:00 a.m. Pacific) on Thursday, October 6th, 2011, telling me what size/color combo you’d like to receive to be entered for a chance to win. I’ll determine the winner via random number generation.

Sure, I’ll get ready for Fall

The heat kicked on in my house last night for the first time in forever. That meant we got to enjoy the sacred ritual of the “Is something burning? I think I smell something burning!” conversation we have every Fall. Good times.

Meanwhile, over at 6pm.com, their lead deal is up to 80% off to “get ready for Fall” on designers like Michael Kors and Max and Cleo. I spy some awesome clothing there at ridiculously low prices. And there’s plenty of other specials going on, too, but I just happen to have a weakness for Max and Cleo.

And getting to buy cute new clothes for Fall always helps me forget that weird burning smell….

48 hours to save big

Got an itch to shop the Gap family of stores? Here, let me scratch that for you: Today and tomorrow, shop Gap, Old Navy, or Banana Republic and you can use coupon code 48HOURS to save 30% on your order!

Now, some exclusions do apply—you can read the list on the site, and I remain amused that kids’ sleepwear is excluded because oh noes, we can’t let people save on jammies!—but aside from the exclusions it does work on everything, even sale prices. Play it right and you could save big.

But it’s only for two days, so don’t wait.

Hopefully this isn’t an omen

I feel a little bad starting out the week with toilet paper. But here we are.

Right now Amazon has a 18-pack of Angel Soft bath tissue double rolls available for just $7.53 shipped when you buy via Subscribe & Save.

The price is excellent; the weird thing is that a lot of the reviews are negative. This is the brand I routinely buy for my family, and I strongly suspect all the negative comments are from people who buy super-duper-plush Charmin and such. I… am not quite sure what all of those people are doing with their TP that they’re having a problem with it. Nor do I want to think about it. So.
