But in case you got some TV money…

… I do have one more holiday-worthy deal to put out there.

Amazon has this 32″ Toshiba LCD HDTV at its lowest price ever, right now—just $199. Yes, it’s only 720p, rather than 1080p, but the human eye can’t discern the difference past about six feet away from the screen, and if you’re sitting closer than six feet, stop it, didn’t your mother tell you you’d ruin your eyes that way?

Those of you who’ve been around here for a while know my feeling on televisions: Buy a smaller TV, or a lesser resolution, in a better brand (rather than going no-name brand on something bigger/better). For my money, this is a perfect intersection of trusted brand, decent size, good specs, and great price.

And just like that, two days from now our last old tube television will be leaving the house. I suspect there will be much rejoicing by the teenagers.

  1. Perfect…the little guy got an XBOX for Christmas and we only have 1 tv in the house.

  2. You are SO pretty today, Mir. I was about to go TV shopping to replace the 19″ set in my living room (yes, I know….) because I can’t read anything on it anymore. Seems like everyone in Hollywood assumes we all have mega-TVs now so they can downsize the print because surely we can all see it on our 50″+ TVs, right? That’s my story and I’m sticking with it. I’m not getting old.

  3. Jill, it really is the TV. We have a 27″ television, and we can’t read anything on it either. We refuse to go beyond a 32″, so we’ll probably never be able to read bottom news tickers or scores during hockey or football games, but we’re resigned to the fact that television people seem to think everyone has a 100″ TV or something. ;~)

  4. Thank goodness I am not the only person with a small TV in their living room.
Well now we will have a 32″, so it’s going to seem huge!

    Thanks Mir!

  5. My new TV arrived this evening. So pretty. I can read stuff on the screen! Amazon 2 day shipping rocks.
