Big savings on movies that confuse me

So today’s Amazon Gold Box is filled with discounts on Studio Ghibli movies, which is great if your kids are like mine and think these are the greatest films ever made.

Personally, my kids made me watch Ponyo and I spent half the movie yelling at the screen. Because this fish becomes a person? And eats ham? And a single mom says to her 5-year-old “Oh hey, there’s a huge storm coming, so I am going to go back down the mountain to what will probably be my death, but you just hang out here, okay? Okay.” And then the kids just go tooling around in a motorboat. Nothing about this movie made any sense to me. I wanted to call CPS, but the whole fish-that-became-a-girl thing seemed like it would be hard to explain.

If you’re better at suspending your disbelief than I am, though, this might be a good deal for you.

  1. LOL, GREAT post!!!

  2. Thanks for the heads up, as always. My kids love these, and I love being able to introduce other parents to them. The movies are also great from a visual art standpoint, and I think their style will be very influential for the next few generations.

And usually the kids’ alternate choice is Fred: The Movie, which we have to hope is less influential (please, God).

  3. My husband *hates* that movie! He complains every time my daughter brings it home from the library and he absolutely cannot watch it without commenting on how stupid it is. Hmmm…I wonder what he’d say if I bought it?
