I’m a sucker for President Martin Sheen

I am so completely behind the times and uncool, I never saw The West Wing when it was on television. I can’t tell you why, other than that I somehow missed it in the beginning and then as people were talking about how great it was I figured I would be lost, starting in the middle. (See also: Lost. I’ve never seen that, either.) And then one glorious summer, my husband broke out the DVD set and we watched the whole thing, beginning to end. I’m pretty sure I yelled at the television when it was over. Because it was so good and I didn’t want it to end.

Today’s Amazon Gold Box holds the entire series on DVD for just $79.99. It contains 45 discs, so that works out to around $1.77/disc. Kind of hard to beat that price.

If you’ve never seen it, this could be your chance. Or if (like my husband) you’ve seen it, but not for a really long time, hey, I don’t judge.

  1. I GOT IT!!!!!! My kids have become the biggest West Wing fans and I have loved rewatching this series. So well written, so beautifully acted. I had looked into purchasing the set for my daughter’s birthday in March and balked (I mean, I love her and all but ….). Thank you so much. 🙂

  2. While I adore the show, and that is a great price, it is also on Netflix. My hubs and I are currently watching it again ourselves.

    • True, and if you’re patient, that works. I am not patient when it comes to watching a series. Heh.

      • Your comment totally confused me, but then I thought more about it. All of The West Wing seasons (and Friday Night Lights which you have mentioned before) are on Netflix streaming–watch as much as you want—no patience required!

        • They are??? Netflix moves stuff in and out of the livestreaming so often, I can’t keep up.

          • I didn’t watch it when it was on either, and we JUST finished watching the entire series 2 nights ago via Netflix streaming. It’s all we watched for like 3 months. So sad that it’s over.

Also – how freaking crazy is it that the episodes aired in 1999 are STILL totally relevant 14 years later? SAME ISSUES, SAME POLITICS and more turtlenecks.

  3. One of the best shows EVER.

  4. I’ve never watched West Wing, but my son gave me the first season of Lost a few months before the final season aired. One blizzard later DH and I were hooked, and I promptly ordered the remaining seasons. A couple more blizzards later, we were more than halfway through. I started recording the final season and stored the episodes while we continued to catch up. By the last few episodes we were in real time.

A year later we went through it again (after receiving the final season as another gift), in an attempt to understand it better. I don’t know if we did, but we did catch a lot more stuff that we missed the first time around. DH retires at the end of this week (woohoo!) and we plan to start watching it again. And maybe we’ll also go through Buffy — I’ve watched that with my youngest, but she is on her own now, and DH has only seen occasional episodes.
