One for you, one for them

I (as I’ve discussed here before) am not much for new games on the Wii, because I firmly believe that God invented the Wii so that I could drive off the edge of the world in Mario Kart. But sure, okay, occasionally I’ll branch out, and my kids, of course, enjoy playing a variety of games.

Lately my son is obsessed with one called A Boy and His Blob, which I gather is a remake of an original Nintendo game. Whatever it is, it’s hilarious. Said blob can transform into just about anything his boy might need, and what is more entertaining to a kid than that? (Answer: Possibly flatulence, but not much else.) Anyway, Amazon is currently offering it through Hubbagames for just over $13 (even though it’s still $30 via Amazon itself), and it’s a really fun one, so I thought I’d mention it.

Meanwhile, if buying something for the kids makes you want a little something for your gaming fun, too, today’s Video Game Deal of the Day at Amazon is any version of Guitar Hero 5 for just $10. $10 for 85 new songs to rock? That’s a no-brainer.

Rock on, my friends.

Now I’m ready

How many times have I talked about potentially replacing my (dying) power toothbrush, lately? I think of it, I see a sale, but then I spot something shiny and wander away. Alas.

This is the month I do it, though. Why? Well, because Oral-B is offering 50% off mail-in rebates on a whole bunch of their brushes. And Amazon just happens to have bunches of eligible models available, many already marked down.

And that means it may just finally be toothbrush time. Sure, this deal runs from now until the end of November, but just imagine how many shiny things I could see between now and then. I should probably take care of this now.

Still cheaper than breakfast out

I’m just going to say it: I don’t understand why anyone buys pancake mix. There. Let’s all wait for the lightning bolt to strike me. Now that I can’t eat wheat anymore, I have to make my own mix, but even before that, I preferred our homemade blend to anything that came in a box.

Then again, it’s possible that I’m a little weird.

That said, I know plenty of people who prefer the convenience of a packaged mix, and that’s fine. I am not the Pancake Police. So if that’s more your style, you might be interested in this Stonewall Kitchen Pancake & Waffle Mix at Amazon. For one thing, it’s at nearly 5 stars after 42 ratings, and if you read some of the reviews you may wonder (okay, I wondered) if one of the ingredients in this mix is crack cocaine. People seem to really love it. For another thing, it’s currently on special, so coupon code STNWL9IO knocks the price down 10% and then buying via Subscribe & Save brings it down another 15% (and gives you free shipping), so you end up with 2 giant canisters (over four pounds of mix) for $12.69.

It’s more expensive than the stuff at the supermarket, yes, but maybe it bridges that gap between Generic Big Box and going out for a fancy brunch. Barring that, it’d be perfect for gifts with some real maple syrup, and you’ll look like a big spender because it’s normally about twice what you end up paying.

Strap ‘em in, head on out

Been looking for a relatively inexpensive umbrella stroller that still has a few features (not to mention safety and comfort for baby)? You could do a lot worse than the First Years Jet Stroller, which weighs in at just 11 pounds, but still has many of the features of its more expensive counterparts—there’s a large storage basket, sunshade, telescoping handles, multi-position recline, and it’s rated to up to 50 pounds. (Dude. My son wasn’t 50 pounds until he was 9.) There are 6 different colors from which to choose, too.

At just under $30 shipped, that’s a good 25% savings over the usual price, making it a great choice for tossing in your trunk or looking pretty savvy and generous at the next baby shower you attend. Either way.

Wii Wii Wii, all the day long

Amazon is doing an all-Wii even in the Gold Box today, starting with the Lightning Deal that just went live—Gold’s Gym Dance Workout for just $19.99.

The idea of something like that appeals to me, though it’s the sort of thing I would only play at home alone, with the blinds closed, rather than risk the humiliation of anyone seeing me try to combine both dancing and working out (when I can’t do the former and can barely manage the latter, separately, to begin with). Maybe the workout comes from laughing at yourself…?

Say cheese!

Been looking for a cheap little point-and-shoot for yourself, or a decent-but-not-too-fancy camera for your kid? Take a look at today’s Amazon Gold Box to find the Kodak EasyShare C182 for under $60 shipped! It’s hard to go wrong at that price.

I’ve found that handing a kid a camera (one that makes them feel like a grown-up, but which won’t cause me to have a grown-up-size conniption if anything happens to it) makes any vacation more interesting, both for me and for them. Just sayin’.

Saturday deals

Good morning, my pretties! The sun is shining and the day feels full of possibilities. Like, possibly I will catch up on work. (Hey, a girl can dream.)

If you want to shop, I’m ready for you. Let’s start with today’s deals at 6pm.com; pages and pages of women’s shoes for under $20! I sorted by size and got 7 pages of results, including some really cute boots. (And if you can resist $20 leather boots, you are a better woman than I.)

Today’s Amazon Gold Box is filled with DJ Hero bundles for all platforms at just $40 shipped.

Today’s the last day to use the current Children’s Place codes—use T9A2010 for 30% off your $60+ order, R9A2010 for 20% off your $50+ order, or Q9A2010 for 15% off your $40+ order.

You have through the end of August to use coupon code CLEARANCE to save 80% on your Restaurant.com purchase, though, so take your time deciding which $25 dining certificates you’re going to bag for just $2 apiece. Look at it this way: The $23 you save totally justifies a pair of shoes from this weekend’s 6pm sale. You’re welcome!

Lands’ End has a bunch of backpacks and lunch bags on sale, in case you’re still in the market for those. Use code AUG30 with PIN 2074 to ship ‘em for free. (And remember, Lands’ End offers a no-questions-asked guarantee, so this can be the last backpack you ever buy.)

Shop J. Crew Final Sale items this weekend and use code OURTREAT to save an additional 20%, plus get free shipping on $150+.

Through the end of August, Meijer is offering free shipping on everything, plus an additional 10% off, with coupon code KITCHENSINK. They carry a surprising array of stuff, and you know how I feel about free shipping.

That should keep you busy for a little while. And I think we’ll have a contest later, because it’s been a while since we had one on the weekend. Don’t forget to check back!

Friday, make mine a double

Coffee, that is. (Geez, people, it’s early… what did you think I meant…?)

What temptations wait out there for us today? Let’s take a look.

I predict today’s featured Target Daily Deal will sell out early—it’s half off a skull-decorated CHI flat iron. I know my daughter would go nuts over such a thing, and regardless of the skull motif, $67.50 shipped for a CHI is crazy. (Don’t forget to activate this link for an additional $5 off your $50+ order, or try code TOEY738U for 10% off!)

Amazon actually emailed me to let me know about the Friday Sale this morning, which was one part hilarious and two parts, “C’mon, Amazon, have you met me?” If you didn’t already stock up on Organic Valley milk boxes earlier this month, hooray for procrastination—at the reduced Friday sale price of $14/dozen, plus coupon code OVALL454 and buying via Subscribe & Save, it now comes to under $10 shipped, or about $.82/box. Sweet! (Inexplicably—maybe it’s the least popular?—if you want strawberry milk, that’s the only Horizon Organics flavor marked down, and comes to about $.83/carton when you buy the 18-pack using S&S and coupon code HMLK4343.)

Also, this is probably a price mistake and will be canceled, but this 3-pack of EO lavender bubble bath is just $.96 direct from Amazon (free shipping with Prime, or a good filler for Super Saver Shipping). Might be worth trying to snag.

I realize this makes me an old uncool gringo, but the assortment of Old Gringo boots today at 6pm.com is hurting my eyes just a little. Wow. Um. I think I’ll stick with the SoftWalks on sale, which, granted, do have some unflattering styles, but if you’re willing to dig, they have some really cute stuff (and are comfy!) at great prices. And hello, have they always had a clearance tab? If so, I just noticed it today. Come to mama!

That should keep you busy for a while. Later today we’ll have the winner of this week’s contest, and maybe some more deals, too. Because the week’s almost over and it’s time to… ummm… get ready for the next week. Wooo! (Party animal, right here.)

Even more diapers and wipes

I no longer have kids in diapers (thank goodness), so I can’t quite figure out of the current 30% off select diapers and wipes promotion at Amazon is still going on from the last time, or if this is a new one. I wasn’t really paying enough attention. It doesn’t matter, I guess, because either way, it adds up to big savings and free shipping.

15% comes off automatically, buying via Subscribe & Save takes off another 15% and ships it for free. Don’t forget to check your coupons, too—mine have a couple of Pampers coupons in there that will stack with this deal (thought each coupon is only good on one box).

It’s not clear to me how long this particular pricing is good for, but the Pampers coupons will only be available through August 28th, so get to shopping if that’s what you’re after.

Granola bars galore

Does your pantry boast a few boxes of granola bars at all times? If so, I’ve got a fabulous deal for you—right now Amazon has various Nature Valley Granola bars available on a deal that comes out to about two bucks a box.

They start at $17.77 for 6 boxes, then you can use coupon code GMBOXTOP to take 15% off, combined with buying via Subscribe & Save for another 15% off and free shipping. End result: 6 boxes for $12 and change. Not only is that a discount over what my grocery store charges, Amazon has plenty of flavors my store never carries (can I get a woop-woop for cinnamon, friends?), so my kids are going to be completely stoked.

I love the smell of bulk snack deals in the morning!

[Edited to add: Interesting. Make sure to go through and check the ingredients on individual flavors; some of their bars are certified gluten free, others are not. And some of them have HFCS, though others don't. Buyer beware.]
