A little light reading

I love magazines, but not enough to actually pay for them; my rule of thumb is that a subscription should be under $5 for the year, or—better yet—free. I’ve noticed the “completely free” deals dwindling of late, but there’s still some cheap deals to be had.

Through the end of the month, for example, Amazon has a slew of magazines $5 or less at checkout (after an instant $5 deduction in your cart), which means now is a great time to renew those magazines you were going to let go because you were cutting corners. So far the best deals I spot are a couple of 2-year subscriptions that come out to just $5, like on Marie Claire or Redbook.

Hey, I don’t begrudge anyone a couple of magazines. Just don’t overpay for them.

  1. Oh man, I love magazines. I pay whatever it costs for Real Simple, but for my other indulgences I dabble in whatever is cheap/ free. Today I will get Marie Claire!

  2. I’ve found that I only read about 1/2 of the magazines I actually receive. ALL of my subscriptions were free or low-cost, thanks to you, Mir! So, I cut off the address label and send them to school with my kindergartner for his teacher to use. She says she can’t get enough magazines! They cut them up and do all kinds of stuff with them. I keep a few at home for him to cut up…

Just a thought, if you have a bunch of old magazines, send them to an elementary school instead of tossing them!

  3. Thanks! I subscribed to a couple just to send them to school for arts and crafts. (Oh, okay, I’ll probably leaf through them first…)
