The cupboard under my kitchen sink is filled with eco-friendly cleaners. Actually, there’s a couple of eco-friendly cleaners, and a big jug of vinegar (my go-to disinfectant). I’m all about keeping the noxious chemicals out of my everyday routine. However, every now and then you just need some mysterious chemical from an alien species to get the grout clean or whatever. And then, of course, you need Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, because they clean everything. This current deal at Amazon—3 boxes of 4 pads each—comes out to under a buck per sponge when you buy via Subscribe & Save. And then each pad can be used until it disintegrates into nothing, which doesn’t happen until you have Cleaned All The Things.
No, I don’t know what’s in them. And I don’t want to know. I just know they work.
There is also a .50 coupon – so it is $11.32 even if you don’t do subscribe and save – Thanks MIr!!!!
A couple of years ago, I convinced my then-5-year-old son that they really ARE magic! He had to wear SYGs (Special Yellow Gloves – the classic Rubbermaid latex) and apply his Superpowers to make them work. He’d go all over the house scrubbing the walls from about the height of my waist down, including the baseboards, which was PERFECT because that’s where I really hated to scrub! Plus, that’s what was really dirty from sweet grubby hand smudges and markers and food and all kinds of flotsam and jetsam.
It’s not noxious chemicals – they are made of “melamine foam” – and I know this because of a middle school science fair field trip – one project compared the properties of different sponges with different materials/densities. The conclusion was something about how the molecular structure of melamine foam acted like an eraser/sandpaper type device. That is the extent of my personal knowledge, but there were microscopes involved and it was kinda cool to view the density of magic erasers vs. the traditional sponge. A student explained it to me in great detail. I hope that student ends up working for BASF someday, because she totally convinced me that they were safe, good products!
