Fly away with The Fairy Chronicles

Despite my deep love of things like chocolate and bacon and a really awesome pair of shoes, those of you who know me well know I have one love which surpasses all others. And despite the fact that this particular affection is something good for you, it still remains my number 1 vice; the thing I’m most likely to turn to for relaxation or entertainment or when I really should be working.

No, not that. Sheesh.

I’m referring, of course, to reading a good book. If the story is a bit magical… well, so much the better.

If you’re a girl at heart or have a female bibliophile in your life between the ages of 5-9, listen up: The Fairy Chronicles are a series from Sourcebooks about regular girls who also just happen to be fairies, and their associated adventures. The stories are darling and—perhaps best of all—they don’t involve subject matter best left to an older age group (something that is, sadly, becoming harder and harder to find for our young girls). These books are ideal for reading together or for her to read under the covers with a flashlight.

So far, there are seven different books in the Fairy Chronicles series. Each book retails for $6.99. I have a set of those seven books to give away to one lucky Want Not reader! The retail value is close to $49, but can you really put a value on nurturing a child’s love of reading? No, you cannot.

For a chance to win the book set, leave a comment on this post before 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008. One comment per person, please! Winner to be determined by random drawing and (what else?) pixie dust. Obviously.

Good luck!

  6. Anything fairy rules in our house. My daughter is collecting the Disney Fairies books, and we’ve recently discovered the Rainbow Fairies…we have 2 complete sets of those (Weather Fairies and the original Rainbow Fairies set) along with 2 of the Pet Fairy books and one of the Gem Fairy. So…if I won this, my daughter would be in fairy heaven!!!

  7. I’d love to read these with my daughter! Right now, we’re working on trying out Nancy Drew. I’m not s sure about Nancy’s relevance right now, though. My 6 year old is not connecting to this teenager who speaks so kindly to her father and wears “sports dresses”.

If I don’t win, I might look into buying these. They sound great!

  8. I’m sure my 7 year old daughter would love 7 books about fairies to read in bed!

  46. My 4.5-year-old would love these. Thanks, Mir! (How do you not keep this good stuff for yourself?! Such restraint!)

  47. I need these books. Seriously. Because this weekend my 8-yr-old told me that reading was boring. And I died a little inside. Particularly since at the time we were talking about why I insisted on reading Prince Caspian prior to taking her to see the movie. Because seriously…it is necessary to read the book first.

(She does read in fact she reads at a grade level higher than she is at. And she’ll read other things, she just thinks that if there is a movie of the book she ought to see the movie and not read the book. Just so no one thinks that the books would go to waste if the pretty number generator picked me – which it won’t anyways.)

  48. My five year old daughter would love these!!! 😉

  49. after a mariposa/fairy birthday party, these would just hit the spot in my five-year-old’s heart. (Oh. And mine. I always loved “No Flying in the House” and finally bought myself a copy last year.)

  66. If I win, I promise that my daughter will devour them (probably all 7 in one weekend), and then they will find a permanent home in the school library. Thanks!

  67. Who doesn’t like fairies? 🙂

  68. Oh my 6 year old loves to read – she would absolutely love these books. Fairies are one of her favorites.

  69. Of flowers and feathers and
    fairies that fly
    On wing dusted grey and
    shattered blue sky
    Of eagles that soar on
    ribbon colored rain
    Of skies drizzling color
    as the lone artist paints
A swirl of gold amidst the
    dusty, dry trail
    That ribbons and winds around
    the fairy’s tale.
