First of all, thanks to everyone who entered the contest to win a Curious George DVD. If you haven’t gone through and read the comments, please do, because they are hilarious. You people are funny.

I do have a winner to announce, but first we have to reenact the scene for you, so that you can feel the excitement. We did this just like the evening Lotto picks, you see, and I know you’d want to enjoy it along with us.

The preparation went thusly: I went through eeeeeeeevery comment left and plugged everyone into an Excel spreadsheet by name and email address. Comments containing a story received two entries (lines) in the spreadsheet. When I was done with that, I had 164 entries in all.

I then filled three hats with numbers. The ONES hat contained digits 1 through 9. The TENS hat contained digits 0 through 9, and the HUNDREDS hat was sad and neglected with only 0 and 1 as the choices. If this doesn’t make sense to you, find a 7-year-old to explain it. Basic math. Not only did this make things more Lotto-like, it enabled me to make just 21 slips of paper instead of 164. Hooray!

Please join us for the drawing….

Our illustrious stage is located right here in my family room, where I apparently really need to repaint the heat registers. Whoops.

Three hats, ready to go. (What? You don’t have two witches hats and a firefighter’s helmet on hand at your place?)

Monkey, will you do the honors? Please draw from the HUNDREDS hat first, with assistance from the lovely but equally anonymous hat-holder, your sister:

Nice job, Monkey! Show us the first number, please.

Alright, our first number is a 0. That means our winner will be at number 99 or below. Would you like to select the second number, please?

Excellent number-picking, son! Care to show us the result?

What’s this? Another 0? Wow, what are the odds of that? This is so exciting! Now we know our winner will be found amongst entrants 1 through 9!

[Wow, all that time I put into plugging every last one of you into the spreadsheet suddenly seems… ummm… well… I had to know how many entries so that I’d know how many numbers we needed. So… ummm… yeah.]

Moving on! The suspense is killing us, Monkey! Draw that last number!

Once again, an excellent job drawing. Are you sure you didn’t train for this at some point? Because you’re just like a pro. A pro with marker all over his fingers.

It’s the moment of truth… please show us the winning entry number!

Number 6! Entry number 6 is our lucky winner! (Did anyone else notice that with each number drawn, his hands drooped just a little bit lower? Poor kid, subjected to the grueling labor of drawing numbers from hats.)

Let me just look that up on my spreadsheet…. Ah! Here we are:
