Get cash instead of magazines

If you’ve been shopping at Amazon lately (and lord knows I have; how exactly did we survive when every purchase meant you had to go to the store and actually walk around looking for things?), you’ve probably noticed that a lot of items are coming with a bonus magazine subscription when you spend a certain amount.

I don’t know about you, but I have enough magazines.

When you get your reminder email to redeem the offer and select which title you’d like to receive, down at the bottom in itty, bitty fine print it gives you the address to which you can send your order receipt for a refund of the magazine subscription price. That’s like a nice little $10 rebate you weren’t expecting. (Lose the email? No worries. The fine print for Home & Garden eligible purchases is here, and for Apparel & Shoes it’s here.)

Don’t just blow it off; it’s money you’re entitled to. Make sure you get it.

  1. Oh, man, I got Cookie magazine that way. I just got my first issue and threw it right in the trash. I sent them an email to see if I can get it to stop and get some money back. I couldn’t find the related order though so I’m not hopeful.

  2. Not that I’ve made one of these purchases yet but that is fabulous!

  3. Did I tell you lately how awesome you are, Mir?

  4. Buy.com is offering the same deal. I was able to get my kids MP3 players with $10 off with Google checkout and another $10 off with the magazine rebate.

  5. Ugh — I wish I had known about this earlier this morning. I just extended my (first, complimentary) Cookie magazine subscription for another year. Even though I HATE that magazine. I figured I would pass them along to my pediatrician’s office. But why should anyone have to suffer 200 pages of Cookie every month with the pouty child models in outfits that cost more than my car? I’m going to call Amazon and make a stink!

  6. I think I love you. 🙂

  7. hahaha, I just dug my e-mail out of the trash (man I love gmail’s search function) to take advantage of this. thank you, pretty lady! 😀

  8. The other day I placed an order and it automatically gave me a $5 “magazine subscription” refund. I didn’t look into it too carefully… just took the money and ran!

  9. You are soooooooooo pretty. I got one of those emails this morning and thought, “Bleah, I don’t want that magazine, too bad,” and deleted it–but it’s still in my trash folder and I’m on my way to get it. Thanks–you gave me ten bucks.

  10. Of course it’s $10 minus the $.41 in postage to send in the request, but dude, that’s a nice chunk of change I would have overlooked! Thank you pretty Mir! 🙂

  11. I am trying to get the refund now–but I’m not sure which part is the “order confirmation.” Do they mean the email I got from Amazon offering me the magazine? Or the Amazon receipt for the order that qualified me for the subscription? Or the order confirmation for the subscription, if I accept it and then mail THAT in for a refund?

  12. Swistle – I just mailed it ALL in.

  13. Do you know how I can figure out what I bought to deserve this wonderful offer? My email says I bought something from Apparel and Shoes, but I don’t think I actually did. My recent purchases are all books, DVDs, and cooking gadgets.
