Final GoodNites winner, and THANK YOU

I know I was a terrible nag. I begged you over and over again to enter the GoodNites swag tote contest. I brought it up every week and you probably got sick of hearing about it. I’m sorry. Except that I am not one bit sorry, because guess what! With over 450 entries, Want Not garnered the most entries of all the blogs involved, and that means my local library will be getting $1,000 worth of children’s books! I could not be more delighted to be involved in making this happen, and in addition to the huge thanks I’m passing along to GoodNites® and Edelman, I want to thank each and every one of you who took the time to enter, knowing that I was trying to win this for the kids in my local area. So thank you!!

[Not to needlessly pull on your heartstrings any further, but our library is headquartered in the poorest county in Georgia, and this morning I spoke with the head librarian and found out that their already meager funding has been slashed to the point where they simply cannot afford to buy more books. $1,000 seems like a drop in the bucket, but at least it’s something. They’re really excited to know it’s coming their way!]

But wait, there’s more, because we still have one winner left to pick! That’s right, there’s still one swag tote with $250 worth of goodies up for grabs, so let me just call on my good friend the random number generator to see who the lucky, final winner is. And it is: Commenter 443, Tarrant! Congratulations, Tarrant—please check your email!

I’ve run a lot of contests here at Want Not, and there have been a lot of generous donations made, but I simply cannot put into words how meaningful it is to me that together we were all able to make something so meaningful happen for my community. This is beyond awesome. So thank you to the good folks at Edelman and GoodNites®, and thank you, Want Not loyalists, for being a part of it all. I always knew I had the prettiest and the best readers out there. You rock!

  1. Excellent!!! You are a rock star! Congrats.

  2. Thank you, thank you! As a librarian, I can tell you how much this means to the library and the community. The parking lot of this library is filled at all hours of the day; libraries historically experience a huge jump in use during difficult economic times, when budgets are being slashed.

    You’re a rock star!

  3. Hoorah. Good for you, Mir. And good for your library. 🙂

  4. Now, take $350 of that award and use it as match for a “First Book” grant to get an additional $1,050 worth of books.

  5. I will be smiling surreptitiously all day to know that a library has been granted such a great gift.

    thanks for your efforts

  6. awesome Mir, congrats!

  9. Congratulations, Mir! I’m sort of a “newbie” here and wasn’t aware that there was more to the contest than the winner getting free “stuff”! I’ll have to pay better attention from now on!

  10. Conratulations Mir.. I knew you would win the books.. I had the magic feeling!! 🙂

  11. You are fantastically pretty, Mir!

  12. Yea!!! I’m happy for you and the library and ‘cuz I was one of the winners! Lots of reasons to smile today!

  13. Yay! Congratulations, and I’m so happy for your library.

Like Julie, I know that budget-slashing times are when people need to use their libraries MORE, so I’d recently written our own governor a letter about the issue. I wish I could help all libraries everywhere, and I’m glad you were able to do something amazing for yours.

  14. Stopped by to say congratulations! 450 entries is awesome and I’m happy to hear about your library as well.
