Don’t forget to Get More!

Have a Discover credit card? Don’t forget to sign up for this quarter’s chance to Get More—from July to September, you can increase your cashback bonus on purchases at gas stations, hotels, movie theaters, and theme parks to 5%. Sure, it’s only good on the first $300 (I don’t know about you, but we’ll spend that the first time we go on vacation), but free money is free money.

Whenever I post these, I tend to get tsk-tsked by a cash-only type wanting to warn me of the evils of credit cards, but I maintain that having/using one credit card that gives rewards—and paying it off every month, of course—is a fantastic way to stay on top of your finances and not have to carry around large amounts of cash. To each their own, of course, but I do pink puffy heart Discover.

  1. I totally agree about cc Mir! We have three: a Discover that is primary, a Visa for those places that don’t take Discover and a MasterCard for emergencies, like when the Discover and Visa account numbers were stolen last month. They always get paid off each month and I can’t tell you how much free money we get each year for fun stuff that we wouldn’t otherwise spend on. Besides, if I have cash I just spend it without keeping track of where it is going.

  2. Our credit cards aren’t for credit in our house; “cc” stands for “convenience card” in these parts. Love this!

  3. We used to have a Discover as our backup, I just couldn’t keep up with having to re-sign-up for rewards all the time and kept forgetting, and was getting stressed about it (I stress VERY easily, yes I need drugs 😉
Then they started nagging us daily about not using the card frequently enough. It was too much for me and I dropped them!
