Gooooood morning! It wouldn’t be Cyber Monday without a giveaway, and when I was planning all of this out a few months ago, I was worried, because I hadn’t yet found the item for today. And then I got a fun pitch and here we are. Clearly this was the way to go—something cool and futuristic that totally made my husband go, “Ooooh, the optics on that must be incredible!” when it arrived in the mail.
Meet the ZEISS VR ONE Plus Virtual Reality Headset. It works with most mobile phones and unlocks a whole new user experience. Did you know there are nearly two thousand VR apps available on the Google Play and Apple stores?? I didn’t.
Here’s what I do know: This past year I had my first experience with Google Cardboard, and I used it to view an “interactive” roller coaster on the New York Times site. I thought the graphics and interactiveness (is that a word?) were pretty cool, and moving myself around and looking in different directions was reflected in what I saw through the viewer, but cardboard isn’t comfortable wear on your face for any length of time, obviously, plus our viewer doesn’t have a strap. But aside from the sturdy ergonomic construction (and padding) in the VR ONE Plus, don’t forget that ZEISS is known for their optics—from eyeglass lenses to camera lenses, its the incredible quality of the glass that’s their bread and butter (and now you know why my photographer husband was so excited about this). The viewing experience in the VR ONE Plus is not just comfortable, but sharp and far superior to any disposable device you may have tried. And today you might win this one from me!
