So it’s possible that I’m, uh, shopping for my dog. Stop laughing. I mean, Christmas is coming, and Santa always brings a few things for the dog’s stocking (yes, the dog has a stocking, hush), and I just thought I’d do a little bit of browsing around.
Which brought me to this platypus. At first I was all, Great, she loves stuffed toys, and a platypus is kind of amusing, so that’s fine. But. But. Apparently this thing is… filled with squeaky eggs? Which the dog is supposed to extract from an elastic opening “on the bottom”…?
I feel dirty.
And yet, I’d be lying if I told you I didn’t have one in my cart.
I don’t have a dog, so maybe I’m missing something, but that? Is weird. And a bit creepy. 🙂
our dog LOVES these toys, (she’s a shih tzu/poodle mix like licorce!). she has the alligator and the fish. she loves the squeaky balls to play catch with and goes WILD when you put the balls in the toy for her to get. seriously– they’re her FAVORITE!!!
Both our dogs had stockings. One died this spring, and you know who is inheriting his stocking, since Target never makes the same styles two years running? MY BABY. Some day, she’ll be working this out in therapy: “I was the maligned second born; I got my handmedown Christmas stocking from the family dog. And it was only 4 inches tall, whereas my older sister’s stocking was ginormous.”
That platypus looks malicious. But I guess I would too, if the family dog was being instructed to root around in my belly.
My dog actually prefers the similar hide-a-squirrel — which isn’t quite as creepy when he extracts the squirrels from the tree stump… lol.
Oh pretty ladies – my dogs have stockings….and so do my cats.
Oh how I wish my doodle didn’t absolutely DESTROY any stuffed toys that have appendages! I purchased him a Fat Cat snake chew toy for Christmas that I HOPE he’ll keep for at least a week!
My cats had a stocking, they’re part of the family after all!
Every time I see a product like this, I try to envision how it was “pitched” to the manufacturer. The picture in my head can actually get me through a long workout. P.S. I would like to thank the producers of the tv commercials that sell toilet paper with bears for getting me through some tough workouts.
Check the reviews, Mir. Apparently someone’s dog actually swallowed one of the squeaky plush balls. Be careful when the soft stuff gets too small….
My dog always got something from Santa, altho he didn’t have a stocking. Just presents under the tree.
Can I just say, looking at the other options on this one, the look on the Penguin’s face is HILARIOUS, especially when combined with the size of the eggs sitting in front of it. I cannot decide whether it looks resigned or incredulous.
I’ve been wanting to get those for sibilng’s dogs for YEARS. My husband is horrified, so I never do… but now, that hide a squirrel… maybe….

My dogs will likely not get much since one of them destroys any toy that has a squeaky inside of it… but I still had to go look at this toy – it has over 100 reviews! And a video! (which I did NOT watch – just ewwww)
I have a mini-poodle and yes he has a stocking, and yes, it gets stuffed. As many mentioned before me, my dog destroys any stuffed toy to get the squeakers out so I have had to buy him only stuffing free toys which just look like limp rags. I wonder since the product says they can get the squeakers out without ruining the toy, if my dog would do well with this. The turtle is cute and cheaper than the rest so I guess I’ll give it a whirl. But everyone should always keep an eye on their dogs when they are playing with these types of toys or anything rather, so that nothing gets swallowed, like one of the reviewers.
