Healthy eyes, even for the lazy

If you (or someone you love, particularly a tween/teen) wear contact lenses, today’s contest is for you.

When I reviewed LensAlert for Cool Mom Picks, I’m pretty sure that rainbows appeared and cartoon bluebirds sat on my shoulder whistling happy tunes. And that’s because—despite two years, now, of being a contact lens wearer—my daughter remains incapable of noting how long she’s been wearing a pair of lenses. I don’t know what’s so hard about writing it down on the calendar, or remembering to look at the calendar afterward, but apparently it’s hard. And being her total drag of a mom, I’m worried about her ruining her eyes with old lenses, because I’m just unfun that way.

Anyway. Here’s the deal with LensAlert: It’s a timer for your contacts. Count down to changing the lenses on one side, the case on the other. (Did you know you should change your case regularly, too? I didn’t!) No muss, no fuss, no struggling to remember, no arguments. Set the timers, set your case in the base, and voila—when it’s time to change, it lets you know. So simple and easy, yet such an elegant solution to a battle moms are fighting all over the place, I bet.

For this contest, we’ll have two winners—each will receive a LensAlert Timer Pack (that’s a timer and three cases) as well as a 6-case Value Pack (they come in a rainbow of colors which my daughter assures me is “totally cool”). I love this for keeping your kid on a healthy schedule, but if you use it yourself, I won’t judge you. Even adults can use a friendly reminder that it’s time to chuck those old lenses.

Want to enter? First go review the contest rules and regulations, then come on back here and leave a comment on this post by 8:00 a.m. Eastern (that’s 5:00 a.m. Pacific) on Friday, September 10th, 2010 for a chance to win. Winners to be determined by random number generation and ocular health. But I’m not an ophthalmologist so probably just the random number thing.

Ready? Go!

  10. This would be awesome for my absent minded teenager or my absent minded husband.

  11. Don’t tell the kid, but I am over 30 and I need this

  12. Maybe I would then wear my contacts more often. Always afraid I’ve worn them too long and am going to ruin my eyes…
🙁 I throw them out just in case then don’t wear the next pair for a few weeks so I don’t waste money… I’m looking into this whether I win or not. Thanks, Mir!

  13. Neat idea…for my kid…yeah…

    (I want one!!)

  14. Despite being over 40, I too have a chronic inability to remember when to change my lenses (you don’t even want to know how long I’ve gone over the limit, and I probably couldn’t tell you anyway). Sign me up!

  15. Cool!

  16. No more tally-marks on a Post-It note stuck to the bathroom shelf. No more forgetting to make tally-marks and having to estimate (Day 6? 7? 8?). I need this!

  24. My husband & I both need something like this!!

  25. Despite my husband’s request that I just change my contacts on the first of the month, I still lose track of how long it’s been. I mean, I can’t do first of the month. I don’t wear them everyday so 6 weeks is better than 4 for me. But I don’t keep my calendar in the bathroom and really I’m 12 at heart so yes, this would be so good for me. Please? Help a girl out. : )

  26. yeah – I can go 6+ weeks on a pair and I know I shouldn’t.

  27. Oh yes, please!

  28. We need this!

  29. If I can’t remember to change the furnace filters how am I going to remember to change my contacts? I wait until my eyes hurt for a few days consecutively and then realize “OH I should change my lenses!”l. Uh, you are supposed to change the case? Why? Hmmm, hope I win this one.

  36. What a great idea…and one that I could totally use!

  37. Cool idea!

  38. I just sit down with the calendar and write the dates I need to change lenses on the boxes. This would be much nicer.

  39. What an awesome idea!!! I am so bad about chaging my lenses and my case…it’s usually a matter of “wow, I haven’t been able to see so well the past few days” before I realize I should swap them out.

  40. This would be fantastic!!

  41. If we had this, maybe our eye doctor wouldn’t cluck at us so much when we went in for appointments!

  42. No kids in contacts (yet) … but I could definitely use this!

  43. I’ve been wearing the same lenses for a long time! I would like this, please!

  44. Cool! My daughter just started contacts, so she might fight me over this….

  45. What a cool idea -I want this!

  46. Wow, what a great idea. I always forget when I put a new pair in.

  47. Like everyone else, I can’t seem to handle the whole calendar concept either!

  48. My 14 year old just got contacts. How perfect.

  49. Me, me, me, me, me.

  50. I have trouble remembering myself…. this would be a big help!

  51. I solved my old contact problem when I switched to monthly ones rather than the 2 weeks, but I’d love to give this to my little sister!

  52. My tween-in-contacts would really benefit from this!!

  53. ooh ooh! pick me!

  54. I LOVE that idea!!

  55. Sounds like something we could use at our house.

  56. Nice!

  57. they sound really great

  58. yes please!!!

  62. sweet! hope to try it out!

  63. I haven’t been to the eye doctor for … over two years? Uh, whoops.

  64. What a smart idea – I totally could use all the help I can get ever since I developed ‘mommy-brain”!

  65. I totally need this!

  66. I so could use that!!

  67. I need help remembering anything….

  68. I could totally use this …

  69. i would NEVER consider sticking something in my eye. blecch! retch! gag! my sister on the other hand is a contact lens devotee and could use this to replace her intricate system of sticky notes and calendar pages.

  70. What a smart idea!

  71. Awesome idea!

  72. Love this! I JUST saw it at Target the other day and thought it was such a great idea.

  73. Oh cool! I have a hard time with this too…what a brillant solution!

  74. Why didn’t I think of this? I need it…not my kids!

  75. I think I need this for myself.

  76. I really need this!

  77. Sounds interesting…

  78. No lie, I had eye lid surgery this year because of a droopy eyelid I got from chronic irritation because I wear my lenses too long. I still wear them too long.

  79. SUre…sounds grand!

  80. My teen girl child would SO benefit from this!! What a great idea!

  81. What a great idea. I know adults that sometimes forget to change out the lenses!

  82. Uh, not like I’m anything like you daughter, but I might need a little reminder about when to change my contacts too. Just sayin’.

  83. I’m presently doing the blink-blink-blink-eyeroll-eyeroll-exaggerated blink to get a clear view with my contacts. Who knows how long I’ve been wearing this pair. I typically do the toilet toss as this point. But how handy to have an actual timer. (ummm, and i’m not a tween/teen, just a haphazard adult contact lens wearer)

  84. I have a standard date to change my contacts. The first of the month. I do have a problem remembering to actually change them though. Maybe this would help?

  85. My niece who I am raising just started wearing contacts. I takes her about 6 hours to put one lens in. I kid you not. Why anyone would want to repeat this torture is beyond my comprehension. She is slightly ADD. Gets it from me poor thing. So I am sure she does not keep track of her lens dates etc. I do put a reminder in my calendar. But what would happen to her if I died? That’s was meant to be funny. ha ha

  86. This would definitely help me keep track even though I have reminders sent via Google calendar 🙂

  87. Oh please!!!
