So here’s the thing: Once upon a time, I shopped at Zappos all the time. They did 110% pricematching (remember those good ol’ days?), and any time I found a pair of shoes on sale that I wanted, I went and got them from Zappos, cheaper. But then they stopped doing it, and I just about stopped shopping there (because their prices aren’t particularly competitive).
But. Every now and then, I need a pair of shoes theverynextdayohmygosh, like when a child decides to spontaneously (it is spontaneous, not that I didn’t have the foresight to check ahead of time; hush) outgrow his dress shoes two days before I need him dressed up for an awards ceremony, or whatever. And then—after running around town, finding nothing in his size—I turn to Zappos, because I’m a VIP member and that means I get free overnight shipping no matter what. Zappos has saved my bacon more than once, this way. Expensive? Yes. Still a handy option to have? Absolutely.
VIP membership is usually closed, but they’ve just opened it up again. It costs you nothing; just sign up and then shop through your VIP address (that’s just a “vip” instead of a “www” in front of the zappos.com part), and you’ll get free overnight shipping on anything you buy, forever.
You might never use it. But you may as well sign up for it while you have the chance, just in case.

I caught this once a long time back, but I’ve never used it yet. I love Zappos, but for the price reason haven’t purchased since I became a VIP member. I should remedy that sometime soon. 🙂
Zappos VIP is also perfect when right before your son’s first baseball game you realize the expensive wide cleats (that can only be found online) that you just bought last year no longer fit him. Zappos lets you order two sizes, find the best fit then return the other size. (I just ordered Sunday night for his game on Tuesday. Arrived Monday afternoon.) Free overnight shipping is awesome!
