Child: Whatcha doing?
Me: Looking at shoes that are on sale. [Buy one, get one half off, plus free shipping.]
Child: Are you going to buy any?
Me: Probably not.
Child: Then why are you looking?
Me: I find it relaxing. It calms me down when I’m upset about other stuff.
Child: Why?
Me: I dunno. I guess because I really like shoes. And it’s fun to look, even if I’m not buying.
Later:
Child, to her brother: You’d better stop it, or Mama’s gonna have to go look at some more shoes on the computer.
This is priceless (and I don’t mean the shoe sales!).
Ha! Once my 5-year-old was mad at me and said, “Mom, I’m going to punish you and you’re not going to be allowed to look at shoes on the computer!”
