Google Checkout discounts (edited!)

I think I mentioned Google Checkout offering $10 off of $30 at many participating stores, when it first started up. Not a bad deal, right?

Well, now some of the stores are ramping it up for the holidays, and going to an automatic $20 off of a $50 purchase when you pay via Google Checkout.

For example… take $20 off of $50 at Starbucks (where you also get free shipping over $59 before coupon). I believe it also works on gift cards, which ship for free.

Or take $20 off of $50 at Buy.com, where they’re currently offering free shipping on all Heelys.

Now I am going to have the image of a kid skating around in Heelys with a quad venti mocha in his hand stuck in my head all day. Thanks a lot.

[Edited to add: Haven’t signed up with Google Checkout yet? Sign up by November 26th and receive a $10 bonus on your first $10+ purchase!]

  1. Who can resist a $50 Starbucks gift card for $30?? But sadly, I can’t figure out where to order gift cards on the website. I see the light at the end of the tunnel but I’m standing behind plexiglass… 🙁

  2. I used this $20 off $50 at buy.com last night to get a discount on some of the newest DVD’s and CD’s. Can’t beat that deal anywhere…I know, I looked.

  3. It looks like you can’t get the gift card at the Starbucks Store, sadly; you have to go through the regular Starbucks website. It doesn’t look like you can use Google Checkout there. 🙁

  4. Thanks Pamela… I guess that’s my sign to use good deals to spoil others rather than myself… Christmas spirit and all that 🙂

  5. You can’t use the Google checkout on the gift cards. I found the gift cards by selecting store locations and selected a gift card. I never was offerred the Google checkout. The url changed to starbucks.com from starbucksstore.com. When I selected coffee, I did see the Google checkout and stayed on the starbucksstore.com site. Bummer!

I did use it on buy.com this morning! Got a 2G jump drive and ipod dock for $42 total after a dang rebate.

  6. How do you find out how which stores are offering the $20 off? Trial and error?

  7. Oh Mir, you are so smart and also, I must say, very pretty! Thank you for this — I just got Guitar Hero 2 (with controller) for $60! (Would have been $50 if I could have figured out how to get the $10 sign-up bonus to work, but I think I failed in that department.) My xmas would be much more expensive if it weren’t for you, pretty wise lady.

  8. Mir, I think I love you! I have saved so much money these last few weeks since finding your site. Yes, it is true you can’t get a gift certificate, but I just bought some of these Holiday gift boxes (6 bags to seperate) which will go perfect with the holiday coffee mugs I had already purchased for my children’s teachers, added some chai tea for myself and got free shipping plus the $20 discount. Also, Toys R Us has the $10 of your order if you use google as well! thank you, thank you, thank you!

  9. Mmmm… Starbucks gift card. I no longer live in a town big enough for a Starbucks, but when I did, a $25 gift card was one of my favorite presents (to receive). Delicious guilt-free expensive coffee drinks (and a few minutes of pleasant atmosphere) for several visits– how can you beat that for a mom?

  10. Thanks for the posting about the $20 off of $50 purchases at Buy.com and the free shipping on Heelys. My son has been wanting them for a while. This will make his Christmas!

  11. Thanks, Mir! The Google price and free shipping are still good, and I just got the Heelys for my step-son’s birthday next month. He forgot to add this to his wish list for Christmas.
