Freebie site, new to me

I’ve just stumbled across Giveaway of the Day, which is exactly what it sounds like. I especially like the Yahoo! endorsement:

Can’t beat the price.

Ha.

So keep an eye on them; looks to be a good resource for things at my very favorite price. Today’s freebie is Video Avatar, which is a nice little piece of software for creating animated GIFs. It normally costs around $40, and today you can grab it for free.

  1. (posting this here, because I can’t email you from work, and I know you’ll see it quickly this way! hope you don’t mind!!

if you click the 12 Days of Cranberry link on the bottom left of the page, and join the Cranberry Club, you can get a paper copy of the Cranberry recipe book.

    yay cranberries!!)

  2. Now the worst part of this Giveaway of the Day site is seeing all the goodies they’ve given away in recent days that I could have used but have missed out on. It’s all your fault for just now finding out about this and telling us after they’ve passed! (Just kidding, pretty Mir–it’s a very cool tip!) 🙂

  3. Ooooh, what a nice tip! Free software- my favorite! I agree with JB- I want the CuteReminder software. Oh well… thanks for posting this one.

  4. I’ve been following this website for a couple of weeks now, and there are some caveats: first, you have to install it the same day you download it, as the license is only good until midnight. Once you’ve installed it, there’s a .exe file you open to register it.

That means that if you change computers or yours crashes, you won’t be able to use it any more. Once I get used to a program, I want it to always be available, so I’m sticking to open source software, which is also free.

The usenet newsgroup alt.comp.freeware each year comes up with a list of the best free software out there and publishes it at http://www.pricelessware.org (ya gotta love the name!) Their criteria are very strict, and they do not list shareware, crippleware, donationware, or nagware – the software has to be truly free. They also only list the best of the best, but it’s rare that you can’t find a program that does what you want on their site.

And you don’t have to worry about installing it before midnight. 🙂
