Britax deals

Lovely reader Lenetta wrote in to let me know that Baby Catalog is having a big sale on Britax carseats through September 15th, 2007, and shipping is free.

If you are unfamiliar with Britax, let’s just say that they are the Cadillac of carseats. Even on sale, they will run you twice or more what other brands cost. Are they worth it? I don’t know. They get great Consumer Reports ratings, and people seem to love them. I’ve never owned one, and my kids are still alive, so I feel unqualified to comment. Heh.

But if you have your heart set on a Britax, this is indeed the lowest prices I’ve seen. Have at it. Thanks, Lenetta!

  1. We aren’t ritzy folk, but we listened to friends with older kids and bought a Britax Marathon for our daughter two years ago. It fits her from 5* to 65 lbs, is unbelievably sturdy, faces forward and back (until 33 lbs– safer!), and will basically last us for years and years and years.

I think of it as investing in one quality carseat, once, rather than a multitude as the kid grows. We’re expecting baby #2 in November, and I’m off to check that sale!! Britaxes NEVER go on sale online, by the way. I’ve been hunting for months. Pretty Mir, and pretty Lenetta!

(*: to be honest, it didn’t really fit her that well until she was 10 lbs. But since we basically only went home from the hospital and to drs appointments those first couple of weeks, I didn’t consider that a big problem.)

  2. LOVE Britax! I agree with the above, it’s worth it to spend the money because they last so long! Expecting baby #2 in November as well and just might get in on this sale!

  3. The Britax is totally worth the money. After doing hours and hours of research when my first child was born in 2000, I decided to invest in a Britax. I now have 4 children, and we did buy the less expensive seats for my husbands car (the kids are in his car less than twice a month) There is such a difference in the stability and ease of use. Once you have had a Britax and used it, you will notice all the little things that make a big difference. Also, Britax has a site where you can order parts to update the foam inserts, replace the harness belts, get a new cover, etc. This is great when you want to update a seat and make it “new” for another child.

  4. I too must agree with everyone else. My kid turned 5 in August and is still in her 5pt Britax marathon that we bought to bring her home from the hospital. She has about another 2 inches of head room left and she is tall for her age so we figure it will take us through the winter.

For my husband’s car we did not buy a britax and have spent just as much money on the two car seats for his car.

Besides the fact that you can use the thing for 5 or so years the ease of adjusting the straps has made it worth every additional dime spent.

  5. Thanks! I’m trying to decide if I should get the Regent for my 5 1/2 year old to get her out of the turbo booster and back into a 5 point harness. This is the BEST prices I’ve ever seen on this stuff.

  6. I came across a garage sale several years ago where someone was selling 4 Britax Raodsters. They are the booster seat with a back, and the back also folds up into the bottom, when you are ready for a backless booster. I think I bought two of the 4, for $20. They are so nice!! My 7 yo daughter loves hers, and the second one in dads car also gets used a lot when I am schlepping someone else’s kid home from the bus stop or something. My 5 yo is not quite tall enough yet, but soon enough, he’ll take over one of them.

  7. Eek! I’m FAMOUS now!!! :>) I have also been obsessively researching car seats, and I’m really debating between the Roundabout and the Marathon. I like that the Marathon goes all the way to 65lbs, but my peanut is 6 months and hasn’t cracked 13lbs yet, so I’m thinking either way, the seat might expire before she hits the limit so the Roundabout might be the way to go for us.

I’ll be deciding by Saturday, because these are the BEST prices I’ve found – and there are lots of places with a sale on Britaxes this week. And now I’ll return to dancing around the room at getting mentioned by lovely, pretty Mir.

  8. Just fyi, if anyone’s still reading this– tinyride.com has a similar sale, with slightly higher prices. But if you use this code:

…the Marathon, at least, ends up being just a tiny bit cheaper than at Baby Catalog. Their sale ends Saturday, too, though…
