I’m sort of entranced by this because it’s so tiny and cute I could stick it in my purse. No, I don’t need another computer, nor will I be buying this. But I do sort of want to squeeze it and hug it and call it George.
So here it is: Buy.com has one of these Super Mobile Internet Device thingies, which in plain-human speak is a fully internet-functional laptop that’s just 7″ and under 2 pounds. The retail price on this baby is $400, and Buy is offering it for $349.99 with free shipping.
Furthermore, if you apply for the new Buy.com Revolution credit card you can take $50 off your $51+ order—making the teeny, weenie laptop yours for just $300.
I’m not saying to run out and do this, of course. This is hardly the greatest computer ever—though it’s certainly hard to beat in terms of portability, particularly at that price—and there are ramifications when you apply for new credit cards, even if you do save a bundle, so this is a deal with many points to consider.
But goodness gracious if that machine doesn’t make me squeal, just a little.
Wow, its popularity has gone up over 20,000%! I guess it’s like a step up from a smart phone, but not quite a full-size laptop. I am sooooooooooooo tempted!
My husband has one and I have to say, it’s pretty much a fully functional laptop and it’s completely awesome. He’s a software developer, and can actually use it to VPN into his office and do work. He generally doesn’t, just because the small keyboard slows him way down, but he can. I was skeptical, but I’m so impressed with it.
One caveat – he runs the pre-installed Linux on it, but he runs that on his full size computers too. So it’s not new to him. I bet the user experience on Windows is different, because Linux is such a lightweight OS.
