There is little in this world I love more than fresh bread. (Except chocolate. And bacon. And possible the smell of a baby’s head. But other than that, I mean.) I try to keep my bread baking to a minimum because I will happily devour all I bake, but I love the process, too—kneading dough is a great way to get out frustration!
Lots of my friends tell me they’d love to bake their own bread, but simply don’t have time. I get that. And thus enters the market for breadmakers, bringing with it a huge array of choices and options. Looking for a sturdy basic breadmaker? How about this Sunbeam programmable breadmaker from Circuit City? It’s currently $37.99 with free shipping. (For comparison purposes: The same model is $44.38 at Amazon.) This one isn’t quite as sexy as that big Breadman we kept seeing deals on a while back, but it has great reviews, will get the job done, and the price is certainly right.
Mir – I too love the smell of freshly baked bread. Going into one of those bakery discount stores is a close second. MMMM -oh right – my problem is that the “boxed” stuff to use in the bread maker in the stores around here is very limited in variety. Where do you find recipes for breads for your bread maker? Thanks!
I too love that smell of my fresh baked rolls coming out of the oven–just calling for real butter! I also love the smell of a baby’s head–I have a 3 month old, and my nose pretty much stays glued to his sweet little bald head!
Another good source for breadmakers is garage sales. I have 2 of them & paid less than $5 for each. They’re not glamorous models, but they get the job done! 🙂
Jeni T, I use any old bread recipe in my breadmaker, using the “dough” setting (except use special bread flour instead of all-pupose flour). Than shape it however you like, set it aside an hour or two, then bake it in the oven. No need for that heinous boxed stuff!
