I was so happy to be back, I forgot the title

Hello! Thanks for your patience today; in the continuing saga of How Can My Life Be Unnecessarily Complicated and/or Annoying, my web hosting experienced an eensy problem this morning. And by “eensy problem” I of course mean that the site was offline for hours. Sigh.

Anyway! Before we leap into the Amazon Friday Sale, there’s a very special Restaurant.com deal you need to know about: Today only—in honor of it being 08-08-08, I think—use coupon code FIRST to take 80% off your certificate purchase! That’s $25 of dining for just $2, and if you know of a better deal than that (short of getting someone else to pick up the bill), I’d love to hear about it.

And now… on to the Friday Sale.

Oh my, these shoes fill my heart with joy, even though I suspect the brand name of “oh…DEER!” is because that’s what I’d say after I fell off those tippy high heels. (Don’t forget that sale shoes are another 20% off in your cart, too!)

I have no idea if this bug zapper actually works (though it has tons of favorable reviews, so it probably does), I just really love the idea of basically sitting around on the porch and slapping at bugs with a badminton racket. (Oh! And! It’s eligible for the 4-for-3 promotion, so I can get one for everyone in the family. Heh.)

When did people stop wearing aprons? I’m a messy cook; I still wear the apron I got waitressing at a diner in college. But maybe I’ll pick up one of these.

Scoooooooooooooba!!! (No, I will never get tired of saying that. Thanks for asking, though.)

Several of my friends used these upside-down tomato planters this year, and I was skeptical, I’ll admit. But… they’re kind of cool. And between the sale and the 4-for-3, I may have to try them for next year.

If you’ve been thinking of switching over to Calphalon, this set would be a great way to start. It’s not only marked down to under $150, but there are several bonus offers available if you decide to pick up additional pieces, as well. Here’s a great Cuisinart cookware set that’s even cheaper, if you’d rather.

And if you need a hand mixer, consider the Braun MultiMix, which is a hand mixer and stick blender all in one. Love! (That’s a great wedding gift, by the way—looks a lot more expensive than the current $24.99 price tag.)

I am officially in love with this bread box. It’s the perfect gift for your favorite mod friend. Also in the “so adorable but sort of weird” category: this egg cooker, and—the topper, really—this knife set.

Again, sorry for the delay, and I hope y’all have a good Friday!

  1. Those bug zapper things to actually work. They kind of stun the bug and at least let you get it outside. Sometimes the bugs come back to life though.

  2. My father-in-law has one of those bug-zappers and positively LOVES it. The relationship that has developed between the two of them could be considered slightly creepy.

And I’m with you on the shoes – gorgeous but dangerous! My sister fell flat on her face on a first date, and just married the guy in May. She swears by the falling down as a true test of the goodness of a man. 🙂

  3. Its good to have you back!

  4. Good luck with restaurant.com. I can’t get the site to do much of anything – testament to the allure of a good discount, I suppose.

  5. Yeah, the restaurant.com site seems to be a tad overloaded.

  6. It’s slammed. I did manage to order 4 $25.00 generic gift certificates. Maybe tomorrow when the site has slowed down a litte, I will decide which restaurants I want to use my certificates at.

  7. Those knives are awesome! Or, more specifically, the holder is awesome 🙂 What a great conversation piece

  8. From what I’ve heard and read, the Topsy Turvy tomato planter isn’t really all that great. Read some of the 1 and 2 star reviews on Amazon. One person even said that he/she made one for a lot less.

  9. I’m keeping my eyes open for a coffee grinder. My SIL thinks she doesn’t need one, so I decided it’ll be her b-day gift — if one goes on sale before November, that is! If I can get it for the 4 for 3 deal, so much the better!

  10. I was having trouble with the restaurant.com web site for hours when I was using Firefox as my browser. When I switched to Internet Explorer, my order went right through. Try that!

  11. I’ve been using IE and it’s taking forever. I did manage to get through on the phone and was told by the nice young man on the other end that due to the slammage (is that a word? it is now.) that the site has been experiencing, the 80% off coupon is being honored through Sunday. Hopefully I’ll be able to get my order to go through sometime between now and then. 🙂

  12. Ooh, I hope that’s true, tbooty! I’ve been using IE and it’s been stuck forever. Now I can relax and unplug this computer before the incoming thunderstorm blows it up! 😮

  13. Brigitte~

My request finally went through and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the discount can be used MORE THAN ONCE. So, of course, I used it more than once. 🙂 And I think they may have fixed the issues, as the 2nd & 3rd orders went through a lot quicker than the 1st.

  14. Hey, weren’t Joshilyn Jackson’s dinnerware on the Friday Sale too? Um, did you let her know?

    Was that beyond stalkerish?

  15. I just ordered a couple restaurant certs as a gift for my Mom (yup, I’m cheap, but she needn’t know!) and the code still worked even though it’s after 12:30am on the 9th here.
    Thanks!
