It controls everything but your kids

Need a universal remote control? One of those super-fancy ones that works on everything? I’ve never understood why people are willing to shell over over a hundred bucks for one of those things, but then again, I also think it’s not that hard to just get up and touch the actual TV, so there’s that.

Anyway, the lovely ImposterMom just pointed out this Philips Universal Remote at Buy.com that’s marked down to just $29.99 shipped. I have no idea why it’s so cheap, but it sure beats the alternative….

(Wait. Do the $200 ones control your kids, too? Because I might pay for that.)

  1. I don’t know why it’s so cheap either but I do know that my husband and I were looking at a lesser model for $100 in best buy this weekend so i snatched this one up.

I haven’t quite figured out how to program the boy with it but I’ll let you know if I figure it out. 🙂

  2. Sweet! We have been looking for one of these! Thanks, Mir!

  3. Normally I’d pass these over, but jeez having three remotes for one teevee has been getting on my nerves lately! This will make a great V-Day present for my nerdy husband (and secretly for ME, of course, the basis of all great gifts), thank you for the tip!

  4. I got almost done with the checkout and realized…I dont’ need a universal remote. I don’t have anything to control!! 🙂

  5. I don’t know how common this is, but I discarded a similar touchscreen model (picked up at a bargain price on Thing Fling) because the batteries had to be replaced every two weeks. And we don’t watch TV that often. Oh and when I called Philips because it didn’t work on our older-model digital converter box — the thing I most wanted it for — I was told that just because the package stated that it was guaranteed to work with everything, didn’t mean I should expect it to work with, well, everything…

  6. I bought an awesome universal remote for my husband for Christmas on Amazon Deal of the Day and I love it. I will never go back to having to figure out 3 remotes again. I push one button and it turns on the TV, surround sound, and cable box. Lovely.

  7. I was all set to shell out for a universal remote but then i stopped to think about it…

I have four or five remotes right now, and even though my house is cluttered and I’m a spaz, i usually know where at least two of those remotes are at any given time.

If I only had ONE REMOTE, I would lose it constantly and would have to resort to *gasp* getting up and changing the channel. By hand. Which I’m not sure I can handle…

  8. I got my husband the $100 one (other company) for X-mas & I think I love it more than him. Our TV remote had gone AWAL a few months ago & this is so, so very nice I can’t begin to tell you. Now, I don’t think I’d shell out a few hundred for one, but this thing was worth every damn penny.

  9. darn, dead.
