Coffee’s on

So, remember when we all got those nearly-free Senseo coffee machines? It seems like people either love ’em or hate ’em, but I happen to adore mine. I’m the only coffee drinker in my house, and I try to limit my caffeine intake, so for me it’s really the ideal solution. One cup—no muss, no fuss.

Well, I stocked up on pods a while back, but this morning I used my very last one. Panic set in, of course; the pods can be really pricey if you don’t snag a sale. Naturally I clicked over to Amazon—fingers crossed—and I was not disappointed. Phew! Because right now at Amazon, select Senseo coffee pods are on big sale: First, they’re already marked down by 29% to 33%. Then, you can use coupon code I5SENSI5 to save another 15%. And then, do the whole shebang through Subscribe & Save, which saves you another 15%, plus gets you free shipping.

I stocked up on Sumatra Blend (my favorite), at a final cost of about $3.25/bag.

I love the smell of fresh bargains in the morning!

  1. I got one, but didn’t really like it. I sold it on craigslist for what I paid for it, so it worked out well. I wanted to like it. Maybe if I’d had the inclination to try different flavors.

  2. My husband likes his, but he would prefer to use other brands of coffee in it. I know there are ways to make your own pods, but I don’t know enough about coffee-making to figure out which one is the right choice. Anyone go this route and have a recommendation?

  3. I wish you would have posted this yesterday. I would have used your link.
    I ordered the multi pack!
But I wish they have Irish cream in stock. 🙂

    Its a great deal!

  4. I tried to like mine, but it leaked water all over my counter. (Not my idea of a good time)

  5. We like ours. We got one of the free ones from the old deal. I’ve bought coffee multipacks from Amazon I think 4 times already. This code will come in handy. 🙂
The coffee isn’t great…but it’s just so quick and easy to use on the fly. I’d love to have a Keurig but no one is giving those away!

  6. We make our own pods….but it isn’t exactly quick or easy. It takes about 3-4 minutes to make the pod correctly and I always end up with a bit of coffee grounds on the counter, which I have to clean up.

Much, much better coffee though. I freshly grind the beans every couple of days, so it is never stale and I can use whatever kind and flavor of bean I like.

You just need small coffee filters, scissors, a plastic measuring cup that is the same diameter of your pods (we use a 1/4 size), something to push down into the measuring cup that is the same diameter of your pod/cup (we had a can of spray oil that was the EXACT same size), and some fresh grounds.

It will probably take a few tries to get the exact amount that you need to trim off of the filter, but basically, you want to get the smaller filters, push one down into the measuring cup using your “pusher” (my oil can), and trim around it until you have about 2 inches high on all sides. Fill the filter with grounds (you determine how much by the how strong you want your coffee and how many ounces of coffee you will be brewing), we generally use about 1 1/2 TBSP. Then gently fold the sides down over the grounds in a circular tuck and press method. Once you have tucked it all in, the grounds should not be visible, but the flaps should not be piled up messily. Then use your “pusher” to pack the grounds into a tight little pod (you will have to push very hard. One pod ready! Don’t try to make several and save them for a few days, because they will unfold and loosen up if not used quickly.

  7. I don’t have one of these, but I wanted to compliment Jen on a FANTASTIC explanation of the pod-making process. I was able to follow along perfectly and can now make my own Senseo pod, should I need to.

Seriously, Jen–I’m not poking fun–you should write manuals or something. That was awesome! I kept waiting to be like, “This is way too confusing/complicated. There’s no way someone else will be able to follow along.” But that never happened!

Great job! I hope Barbara finds it useful! 🙂

Should write excellent post! Looking forward to seeing your next one!

  9. Love my Senseo machine! I always buy the Pods when they are on sale at Target. Thanks for the tip. Just looking into the “subscribe and save”, haven’t done that before.

  10. Thank you, Jen! I’ll e-mail your instructions to my husband. (=

  11. I bought a Presto Mypod and filters at Walmart so I could use my own coffee. It is better, but I’m still not a big fan. I
