Wizard of the Coast is doing a promo for a free deck of Magic: The Gathering cards.

If you’re already a Magic geek, enjoy! If you’re unfamiliar with Magic, think of Dungeons and Dragons in card form.

And if, like me, you have a son who loves all things which combine cards and mythical creatures, well, there’s some good mama points, right there.

  1. Awesome! Thanks! My sister-in-law and her brother play. I have no idea what it’s all about, but her birthday is coming up so, hey, extra gift!

  2. Sweeeet! My son would think I was the coolest ever 😉

  3. No, that’s manna, not mama 🙂

  4. I am pretty sure, Mir, that with your son and your wonderful geek tendencies, that you already know this stuff. If you havent played it, I am more than certain you would enjoy it. Good luck finding the time though…
As a player of M:TG for almost 15 years (off and on), and now as a parent, this game has tremendous upside potential. Not only is it fun, challenging, and never the same game twice, it helps to encourage and promote creativity, independent thinking, critical thinking, and problem solving. Think PokeMon or Yu Gi Oh, but much more advanced. there are very few games that both children of single digits, and adults of any age, can play and enjoy at the same time, against each other. This is one of them. I love the game, and will teach it to my son when he is old enough (much to my wife’s chagrin).
However, It can get expensive… quick. Especially if you want to stay current and (if you choose) competitive. If you know how much PokeMon or YuGiOh stuff sells… think more for Magic.
But for sheer fun, a renewable experience, and a proven winner, you can’t beat the Original Collectible Card Game.

  5. lots of geeks here. would love some magic cards.

  6. I used to play this occasionally with friends in high school and it was fun and easy to learn, challenging to master. Thanks for the cool freebie!

  7. Who are you calling a geek? 😉 This one’s for me!
