Another reminder to ask

Did you happen to get in on the recent deal on a refurbished Garmin Nuvi? After I posted it, I decided it was such a good deal, I’d go ahead and grab one, myself. (Our GPS unit has old maps. It occasionally thinks we’re driving in the forest when we’re on roads.)

Well, it showed up and… the mounting bracket was broken. It turns out that Buy.com’s policy on this sort of thing is that you can return it or you can deal with it. You can’t really exchange an item like this, because they have a limited number and sell out. Hmmm. So I called Garmin. And although I had to wait on hold for a reeeeeeeally long time (I put the phone on speaker and continued working), they were ultimately very helpful and kind and my new bracket is on the way, free of charge.

I love it when a deal comes together.

  1. Yes!

I recently bought new water bottles for Hubby and me (as we’d become jealous of the new ones I’d gotten for the kids – go fig), and when we got home I realized that one of the bottles was missing a vital component – a little plastic doodad that made the bottle actually spill-proof, instead of just a really weird cup).

It was a Thermos brand bottle, so I went to their website, used the contact form to explain the situation and asked how I could procure a replacement. They’re sending me two sets of replacements, free of charge. Thanks Thermos!

  2. Yay! for companies who still know what customer service means!!
p.s. Hey Mir, what do you think of Amazon buying Zappos?

  3. Um, couldn’t you have just bought the updated maps? Just sayin’ 🙂

  4. I got the Nuvi 765T as a birthday gift last month (yes, I know its VERY expensive, my husband’s crazy like that!) but it actually has LIVE traffic! Its not perfect but it sure is helpful when I’m trying to navigate my way out of the city every day!
