Beat the heat

Living without air conditioning? When I lived in New England it was always the Zen exercise of the summer to strategically place fans all over the house to maximize airflow. (Here in the south, I have air conditioning. But I do sometimes miss those cool nights when you could lie in bed and enjoy the breeze coming in the window.)

If you’re in need of a bit of wind power to keep cool this summer, check out this 18″ pedestal fan at Amazon. It has three speeds and a remote control, and if you look at the default price and the “More Buying Choices” column you can see that the regular price is around $45 shipped, but choosing to buy it directly from Amazon will get it shipped to your door for just $26.53.

I never had a fan with a remote, before. You kids today have it so easy.

  1. Vornado fans are the ones to use when you don’t have air conditioning and live in an area where is it needed.

  2. We do need a fan, but this one seems to be gone from Amazon.

  3. I guess the 2nd comment answered my ? – How do you buy direct from Amazon as that wasn’t a choice.

  4. We just installed a ceiling fan in our bedroom – with a remote control! It wasn’t that simple; it was part of the remodeling project from heck. I keep saying, “It’ll be worthwhile when it’s done” as I click the fan on and try to sleep in the sawdust-filled home.
